How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

cant find a clear cut betting stance on liverpool v man u see how the game pans out first

bakko - 18 Sep 2005 12:14 - 4697 of 10502

I agree, its too close to call. I'm sure Manu odds would be much shorter if Dudek was in goal!

markusantonius - 18 Sep 2005 12:44 - 4698 of 10502

Looking like a 6/4 draw at the mo, chaps...?

( and PTH - re: golf - stop exxagerating, mate, and like I always retort: "Show us your handicap cert.!" and then we'll see who the stats. say is the superior player? :o) Enough said! )

ptholden - 18 Sep 2005 13:02 - 4699 of 10502

Just trading a few ticks on the match. Started with the draw and have greened up at half time. Think Man U might get going a bit in the second half, although it's a fairly crap game.

bakko - 18 Sep 2005 13:18 - 4700 of 10502

This is a dull game......ZZZZZZZ

Doc and pth.. Thanks for replies. Glad you could make heads and tails of my email.

pth. In answer to your question. I don't think you can place bets during that small delay as it takes 5secs for the bet to be accepted by betfair.

If this game still remains scoreless with about 10-15 mins to go the draw odds will collapse very quickly. You should be able to nick some ticks on the draw.

bakko - 18 Sep 2005 13:59 - 4701 of 10502

What a woeful performance by both sides. Watching paint dry is more exciting!

Hope you all picked up plenty of ticks towards the end.

A very disappointing game. Scalped some ticks towards the end, so nicely in profit. Can't say I really cared about the game as I was more interested in watching the odds. Interesting to note that the odds shortened on corners and free kicks, offering an opportunity to nick a few more ticks (assuming the attacking side doesn't score of course!).

onto another bolton v newcastle is it me but the matches this season so far have been poor quailty and not very exciting

markusantonius - 18 Sep 2005 14:10 - 4704 of 10502

Should've put some dosh where mouth was - the NW derby an abovious draw from the first whistle as we will ever get - both teams cancelling each other out! Pete, Where's that stuff you were going to fwd onto me?

Scripophilist - 19 Sep 2005 15:36 - 4705 of 10502

A little time out there by Betfair, Don't know if anybody else noticed?

We are testing a monitor on Bet Angel that will tell you if the Betfair response time is slowing. Should come in useful IMO.

The response time is about 10 times slower than on Friday today. (From my machine at the moment at least).

WOODIE - 19 Sep 2005 15:57 - 4706 of 10502

scrip i have noticed it over the last few weeks it is slowing down in response time looks like to many trades are going through and the site cant cope with it hence 2 sats running they had to take site down.

ptholden - 19 Sep 2005 15:59 - 4707 of 10502

Scrip

What time will the course finish on the 29th. Any idea how long it will take to get to St Pancreas from Heathrow, via the tube?

pth

DocProc - 19 Sep 2005 16:15 - 4708 of 10502

I'm coming by car and afterwards will be travelling back up the M1 as far as Northampton Services, if that is a help to anyone.

Scripophilist - 19 Sep 2005 16:24 - 4709 of 10502

pth, I always over run but aim to finish 1/2 hour after the last horse race. I don't know the race card for then but guess the last race will be around 17:00-17:30

If you catch the tube to Paddington you can catch the Heathrow Express. That's by far the quickest way to get there.

Aristo - 19 Sep 2005 16:33 - 4710 of 10502

Hello everyone, Scrip took Bet Angel Pro from you a couple of weeks ago, unreal, the complete dogs whatsits. Now if you can just talk to betfair and get their reliability sorted we will all be happy.

Be assured I am very regular visitor there.

Fundamentalist - 19 Sep 2005 19:09 - 4714 of 10502

Just looked at the prices of the Arsenal game - is it just me or do Arsenal look amazingly short at 1.36 (im an arsenal fan by the way!). Admittedly Everton were appalling in Europe but will surely come to Highbury and put men behind the ball - as Arsenal have proved recently they may struggle to break them down. Have to admit thought the price would have been about 1.6-1.65

WOODIE - 19 Sep 2005 19:26 - 4715 of 10502

fundy being a gooner you will remember they beat everton 6 or 7 nil not so long ago i thought they would be 1/4 to 1/5, 4/11 best price in the village with 365 the other 2 bookies that offered this have shorten the odds to 1/3 to 2/7
