How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

And down again. I'm giving it a rest for a short period till I can figure out if things are more stable. Two lots of exposure on the 15:30

Aristo - 05 Oct 2005 15:32 - 5028 of 10502

Same as that Scrip, annoying to say the least

Scripophilist - 05 Oct 2005 15:32 - 5029 of 10502

And now back, Squared up just before the off!

ptholden - 05 Oct 2005 15:33 - 5030 of 10502

Just about to ask the question as to what's going on, but I can see from the posts that Betfair is confirmed down yet again:-(
Bit of exposure on the 1530

ptholden - 05 Oct 2005 15:35 - 5031 of 10502

greened up now

Aristo - 05 Oct 2005 15:35 - 5032 of 10502

Got filled as well, been using the bookmaker tab for last couple of days to great effect but a bit scary when the site breaks

ptholden - 05 Oct 2005 15:35 - 5033 of 10502

and onto the next race

HelenW - 05 Oct 2005 15:40 - 5034 of 10502

The cards on betfair seem to bear no relation to what I have in my paper. is this a Betfair problem or a Guardian problem. I brought up 3 40 at exeter and got card for the 4.40. Any ideas?

Scripophilist - 05 Oct 2005 15:43 - 5035 of 10502

I've heard of people's PC's being one hour out due to being on GMT and not BST. Could that be the issue?

Fundamentalist - 05 Oct 2005 15:47 - 5036 of 10502

Helen

had this prob a while back and resetting the time on the pc then rebooting did the trick.

(Im just trying to get the reverse to happen now (be trading on thje race that finished an hour ago :-) )

HelenW - 05 Oct 2005 15:50 - 5037 of 10502

Time on my computer is correct and this is the first time it's happened. bit of a mystery. Just clicked on 4.20 Nott and got card for 5.20 My list on Betfair doesn't include 4.10 Exeter.

Harlosh - 05 Oct 2005 15:57 - 5038 of 10502

Are you on today's card Helen?

Scripophilist - 05 Oct 2005 15:57 - 5039 of 10502

Could be worth checking regional and language settings on your PC?

HelenW - 05 Oct 2005 16:03 - 5040 of 10502

Yes, Harlosh I am on today's card - cheeky wotsit :0) Phoned betfair - they said it was their problem. Disputed this as no-one else affected, changed to GMT +1 in profile and it seems ok. Thanks for the help, all. H

Harlosh - 05 Oct 2005 16:05 - 5041 of 10502

Lol!!!

Scripophilist - 05 Oct 2005 16:40 - 5042 of 10502

Fun and games in the 16:30!

ptholden - 05 Oct 2005 17:17 - 5043 of 10502

Bets on 12 races today, in profit on 10, so not a bad day, although some of them were a bit messy!

pth

Scripophilist - 05 Oct 2005 17:20 - 5044 of 10502

I was having an excellent day till the 16:50 and made a bit of a hash of that one; but that was the only race I lost money on, other than that not a bad day.

Scripophilist - 06 Oct 2005 15:52 - 5045 of 10502

Watching the 15:50 with interest. Harrys dream priced at 1.19 before the off, may lay in running at short odds if well in the lead.

Fundamentalist - 06 Oct 2005 15:59 - 5046 of 10502

Scrip

hope you didnt lay for too much

had a lump on - it was a training exercise!
