THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

More northern benefit cheats. How many haven't they caught yet?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-30057180

Liverpool family jailed for £200,000 benefit fraud

A woman who claimed she was too ill to walk, yet was filmed surfing in Australia and swimming with dolphins, has been jailed for benefit fraud.

Danielle Bennett, 30, from Liverpool, and her parents Samuel and Patricia Bennett, both 64, admitted claiming more than £200,000.

They were jailed for 30 months, nine months and 27 months respectively.

They had claimed they were too ill to walk and could not make their own food but video footage suggested otherwise.
'Worst benefit fraud'

It showed them taking exotic holidays and displaying no signs of physical disability.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) said Mr and Mrs Bennett, of Barker Way, had claimed benefits between 2002 and 2012.

Liverpool Crown Court heard Patricia Bennett falsely claimed £70,000, while her husband claimed £41,000. Danielle Bennett, from Woodvale Road, falsely claimed £101,000.

The family pleaded guilty to benefit fraud at a previous hearing.

Sentencing, Judge Dennis Watson QC said in 30 years in criminal court it was the worst case of benefit fraud he had seen.
'Callous lies'

He said the family used the money obtained to fund a "lavish lifestyle", which included nine holidays between 2003 and 2012.

He said the family "lied blatantly and repeatedly" to obtain significant amounts from the DWP, with Patricia Bennett "playing the leading role in the fraud".

Steve Sneade of the DWP said after sentencing: "It is not just the sum of the money involved - although £212,000 is a lot of money that is stolen from the taxpayer, but it was also the nature of the case.

"It was callous lies told to get money meant for the most vulnerable in our society."

He added: "They enjoyed a lavish lifestyle with many holidays abroad to exotic places like Thailand, New York and Las Vegas, all at the expense of the taxpayer."

Nobody want to work in Northampton....really?

Northampton unemployed outraged over sandwich factory’s ‘insult’

News that Greencore was in Hungary to hire staff sparked howls of protest in a town where nearly 8,000 people are out of work

Robert Booth, Sean Farrell and Jennifer Rankin

The Guardian, Friday 14 November 2014 21.26 GMT

Sandwich production at Greencore’s factory. The company turns over £25m a week supplying M&S, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Asda.

It used to be the future of jobs in coalmines and steelworks that roused the passion of British workers and politicians. But this week, in an early skirmish of the 2015 general election campaign, the battle lines were drawn across a different terrain: who should make our crayfish and rocket sandwiches?

From Budapest came news that representatives of a big employer in Caroline Dale’s corner of Northampton – the Greencore sandwich factory – were in Hungary hiring workers for the minimum wage of £6.50 an hour. The 32-year-old mother of five said she had looked for a job for months, had sandwich factory experience and was furious she had not heard about the vacancies.

“I think it is terrible,” she said as she wheeled her son to playgroup. “I would work for £5 an hour. I would do any hard graft; if I had to pick up litter I would do it. We are born and bred here and we are screaming for help. We are looking for these jobs but they are not looking for us.” The sandwich storm blew up on Monday after the Daily Mail’s front page asked: “Is there no one left in Britain who can make a sandwich?”

The story seemed to crystallise some voters’ deepest fears about immigration and job security, which are set to be key election issues. Greencore, a stock market-listed and increasingly successful convenience food giant that turns over £25m a week making, among other things, sandwiches for Marks & Spencer, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Asda, was looking abroad for staff because, it said, the jobs were “not always the kind of work” which local people wanted to do.

The company employs 1,100 people in Northampton. Locals said they were insulted and claimed they were overlooked by a firm driving down costs. Never mind that 6 million foreign-born people already work in the UK, including many from Poland, Latvia and Albania on the Greencore sandwich production line: the constituency’s parliamentary candidates spotted an opportunity.

“There are 7,800 unemployed in Northampton and they should have gone to those people first,” said Ukip’s candidate for the Northampton South seat, Rose Gibbins. “They are upsetting people here. It is an insult and a fallacy that people don’t want to work.”

The Conservative candidate, David Mackintosh, raised the spectre of pressure on public services from more migrants if Greencore brings in more Hungarians, while voicing pleasure at the new jobs. The Labour candidate, Kevin McKeever, claimed to have persuaded Greencore to advertise forthcoming jobs at a local fair, while the local officer of the Unite union, Sally Mortimer, declared: “I don’t believe for one minute that we don’t have the workforce here. I have not seen anyone canvassing for jobs.”

The rest of the abysmal shit is here: http://www.theguardian.com/society/2014/nov/14/outrage-among-northampton-over-sandwich-jobs-insult

Haystack - 15 Nov 2014 00:57 - 50329 of 81564

This is a strange story. It has been going around for a few days. The company said that there is quite high employment in Northampton and they had trouble finding staff in the area. The story has been highjacked by people saying that the idea was to bring in lower paid workers.

The ONS figure for unemployment in Northampton is only 2.4%

It sounds like UKIP is telling porkies.

Ed Miliband is driving white van man into the arms of Ukip

Tony Blair is the only Labour leader to realise that almost everyone is a 'worker’ now

Peter Sellers in I'm All Right Jack: In 1945, Labour won because it seemed to offer workers their just reward for victory in war, and their chance to build the peace. In 1979, Mrs Thatcher’s famous claim that “Labour isn’t working” struck at its heart, and she won. Photo: Rex Features

Before we leave the subject of Ed Miliband, let me offer one thought. The anxiety about him as Labour leader is embarrassingly simple to explain. He does not look right or sound right, and he never will. So speeches, like this week’s, in which he tries again to explain “Who I am”, only remind us of the problem. David Cameron must pray that he makes many more of them.

It is traumatic for a party to know that it has the wrong leader as a general election approaches. The same thing happened to Labour about six months out from the last election. Voters decided that, if they had anything to do with it (which, up till then, they had not), Gordon Brown would not be the next prime minister. It was very demoralising. So of course it matters that Mr Miliband has repeatedly and absolutely failed to transform himself into Superman. Every time he re-enters the telephone box of politics and struggles into the garments that don’t fit, it just makes things worse.

Right back from last night.

Ohhhhhhh we had a fantastic night out what a laugh doodlebug is, we were killing ourselves laughing all the way to the pub. My stomach aches from laughing.

She (Kim) says she is going to sign up to this site for the entertainment value and insists I dont filter doodlebug as he is such good entertainment value.

She keeps asking me "find out if he is a ginger top" to which I have no idea.

Must admit having looked at it again now it is really funny, what a prat he made of himself.

It must be one of the greatest comedian passages of posting we have had on money am.

Just wondering If I should set up a thread for silly postings like that and give the opportunity for posters to vote marks out of 10.

For sure doodlebug was a 10 last night.

Chris Carson - 15 Nov 2014 11:12 - 50333 of 81564

goldfinger - 15 Nov 2014 11:55 - 50335 of 81564

CARSON I can see your username, come on own up how much did you lose on FLYB????

Look I dont like to see people lose money but when you follow a second rater like doodlebug you are obviously going to be pulled down to his low standards and suffer the same returns ie, losses.

Id have a serious think about distancing yourself from him before your reputation gets as low as his ie silch.

doodlebug4 - 15 Nov 2014 12:00 - 50336 of 81564

goldfinger - apart from the fact that your 100 or so posts on the FLYB thread were exactly duplicated on advfn under the username mike740, these are just three examples of some other posts on advfn:

LAND - on the Mam chard thread 13 October at 8.43 posted by gf
LAND - on the advfn far9 thread 13 October at 8.49 posted by mike740

CSRT - on the CSRT Mam thread 6 October at 18.53 posted by gf

Just a few examples of exactly replicated posts and you continue to deny you post on advfn under the username mike740.

goldfinger - 15 Nov 2014 12:11 - 50337 of 81564

Proves nothing, just your silly mind over working and totaly confused.

I have around 1,200 fans on twitter under my user name there and 4,500 under a PLC thread with two mates.

Often posts are duplicated from other posters. In fact they are often re-tweeted. Advfn as a connection button to Twitter are you denying that. ???????????

Being such a high profile poster I often get this kind of thing happening.

Stop being a tw-t.

Have you got ginger hair??????????????????????????? LOL.
