How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Ooops. They're not.

Scripophilist - 12 Oct 2005 20:37 - 5109 of 10502

The prices after the Polish equaliser were all over the place. Just way, way out. Haven't seen such margins in the price in ages. About 10% out from true value. Easiest money of the night.

See 1.01 backers of England to be ahead at half time got their fingers burnt

Ireland game very dull first half. With France 3-0 ahead they will win the group if it stays 0-0 in this game and the Swiss would get a play off place. With the French so far ahead the Swiss are likely to settle for the draw (if France score a couple more they'll win the group on goal diff anyway) and Ireland have to go all out for the win. Conclusion - lay Switzerland at 4.0 ? Anyone agree?

I'm wondering now in the England match, if 1.37 is good value for 'more than 2.5 goals'...?

The England attack is looking better and better every minute and the England defence muffed it over on the (Pole's) left wing and let the Poles score.

Harlosh - 12 Oct 2005 20:50 - 5112 of 10502

Too high a lay for me Steve, though I do agree with your reasoning.

Scripophilist - 12 Oct 2005 20:52 - 5113 of 10502

Doc, You would have to think there will be at least one more goal.

Fundamentalist - 12 Oct 2005 21:03 - 5114 of 10502

Swiss still being quite adventurous so am out for a small profit at 4.8

Scripophilist - 12 Oct 2005 21:04 - 5115 of 10502

I have having fun playing twitchy fingers here. Backed under 2.5 goals at 2.74 when that disallowed goal was scored and laid it off for 2.64!

Fundamentalist - 12 Oct 2005 21:09 - 5116 of 10502

horrific foul led to sending off in NI game - tackled player also off for grabbing him (a fair reaction when someone has tried to end your career - yes the tackle was that bad)

Scripophilist - 12 Oct 2005 21:11 - 5117 of 10502

Under 2.5 decay will speed up a lot now guys.

A post from the betfair forum of how not to trade the football:

Scripophilist - 12 Oct 2005 21:13 - 5119 of 10502

Don't think the officials are having a very good game.

Harlosh - 12 Oct 2005 21:20 - 5120 of 10502

Hope nobody got caught

Scripophilist - 12 Oct 2005 21:20 - 5121 of 10502

Good finish Lampard.

Harlosh - 12 Oct 2005 21:21 - 5122 of 10502

I had just laid the draw but was stopped by the 5 second delay.

Scripophilist - 12 Oct 2005 21:24 - 5123 of 10502

Unlucky Harlosh. I was green on over and unders and on the match odds, so will leave it there for the match.

Fundamentalist - 12 Oct 2005 21:24 - 5124 of 10502

Shay Given has just kept ROI in it - the game has really opened up with ROI going all out to get a goal

Scripophilist - 12 Oct 2005 21:28 - 5125 of 10502

Just dutched the correct score market as well.

Scripophilist - 12 Oct 2005 21:28 - 5126 of 10502

I'll switch the the ROI game maybe some late action over there.

Harlosh - 12 Oct 2005 21:32 - 5127 of 10502
