How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Hope nobody got caught

Scripophilist - 12 Oct 2005 21:20 - 5121 of 10502

Good finish Lampard.

Harlosh - 12 Oct 2005 21:21 - 5122 of 10502

I had just laid the draw but was stopped by the 5 second delay.

Scripophilist - 12 Oct 2005 21:24 - 5123 of 10502

Unlucky Harlosh. I was green on over and unders and on the match odds, so will leave it there for the match.

Fundamentalist - 12 Oct 2005 21:24 - 5124 of 10502

Shay Given has just kept ROI in it - the game has really opened up with ROI going all out to get a goal

Scripophilist - 12 Oct 2005 21:28 - 5125 of 10502

Just dutched the correct score market as well.

Scripophilist - 12 Oct 2005 21:28 - 5126 of 10502

I'll switch the the ROI game maybe some late action over there.

Harlosh - 12 Oct 2005 21:32 - 5127 of 10502

"Rooney by far Englands best player"

Fundamentalist - 12 Oct 2005 21:35 - 5128 of 10502

ROI out after a 0-0 draw

Scripophilist - 12 Oct 2005 21:38 - 5129 of 10502

I thought England played a lot better tonight, give some hope for Germany 2006.

Tempted to go out there next year. Have lots of friends over there und Ich spreche etwas Deutsch. So I think it could be a good laugh. Just need to find a hotel or a friend with wireless broadband for the duration of the tournament, oh and to get a pass from the wife!

ptholden - 12 Oct 2005 21:57 - 5130 of 10502

As per usual, messed up on the Eng game. Seemed to get caught out tonite with the delay in placing bets on fast moving odds. Back bet placed and before I knew it, the Lay bet had been matched before the back and I was chasing the odds. Got quite difficult to track what was going on. End result, loss on the Eng match, but recouped half in the last 10 mins on Ireland / Switzerland. Think I should be using the fill or kill facility before anyone says anything :-)

Fundy

Well done on your day.

Understand what you are saying about not getting hung up on number of races won, but it is encouraging to know that I am getting considerably more races correct than wrong. Still using relatively small bets at the moment when compared to the more experienced traders (I should imagine) but managed to turn over a steady profit of 140 today. Had I not gone to the dentists for a filling, I might have been able to break the daily 200 barrier for the first time! When I start to do that on a regular basis, think I might retire. :-)

Anyone watching or trading the snooker

just looked at the O Sullivan game - he is 1.2 to beat Jo Swail and the head to head record is 7-5. With it only a first to 5 O Sullivan looks very short - would lay but im a big O Sullivan fan (bit like laying Arsenal lol)

Scripophilist - 13 Oct 2005 13:43 - 5134 of 10502

Get your cat to make the decision I hear its good at laying Arsenal.

Fundamentalist - 13 Oct 2005 13:43 - 5135 of 10502

lol Scrip

stuartreece - 13 Oct 2005 13:49 - 5136 of 10502

Fundamentalist,

I know what you mean, I've looked at this match and thought 1.2 looked a bit short (although I could say with any authority what the odds should be) but I was thinking scalping would be the best tactic here before greening up for a (probably) very small profit. Unfortunately I will be working so can't trade for more than about the next 10 mins which probably isn't long enough to make anything here.

i have a 46.00 profit on O'sullivan for the title without any liability if he doesn't do it. Could do with him getting a bit further before I spread the risk for guaranteed profit.

Fundamentalist - 13 Oct 2005 14:16 - 5137 of 10502

1-0 to O sullivan looks like going 1-1

Two nice favourites to trade to start the horses day - both won too so fav backers look like having another good day

Fundamentalist - 13 Oct 2005 14:22 - 5138 of 10502

Swail messed up, 2-0 O Sullivan

Fundamentalist - 13 Oct 2005 15:55 - 5139 of 10502

Someone is determined to keep Miss Shakiras price where it is in the 3.55 at Ludlow moving 100k either side of the book - either that or scrip is now trading 10k a tick
