Consumer confidence index tumbles to 87.3 in Feb. from 96.8 in January.
Slimmer chance of any rate rise on those figures.

yup, but when is the question,
my inclination is a small short very soon, c188.80ish
coz our cousins across the pond tend to overdo everything
and it's just started looking a bit toppy
mind you, i thought it would take till friday to get to 188.00,
so you pays yer money.........
p.s. if i do go short, the stop will be 189.20ish

Informa Global Markets currency analyst Fergal Smith said the dollar is likely to continue southward even as Japan is seen strongly protecting the dollar/yen from falling below the 108 level.
Smith added that the market will be most sensitive to US Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan Greenspan's testimony on the US economy and policies today and tomorrow.
If Greenspan is as upbeat about employment as he was last Friday, Smith said it would be bullish for the dollar since 'it is seen as bringing forward the timetable for a US interest rate hike'.
'If however, he does not give much fresh policy clues, it would be bearish on the dollar, aggravating ongoing concerns of the US twin deficits,' Smith said.
After its overnight rally the euro declined slightly in Singapore trade on calls by German economy and labor minister Wolfgang Clement for the European Central Bank to intervene or ease European interest rates after the softer Ifo business data.
