THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

She was ignorant Hays.

cynic - 08 Dec 2014 16:56 - 52465 of 81564

i answered a slightly different question, primarily about being able to eat cheaply and also to construct simple and nutritious and tasty meals without spending ages doing so

by the way, the only person who ever trained me was me, and though i may be quite good by household standards, i'm truly pathetic relative to nearly all these amateur cooks one sees competing on tv

some people despise having to cook ..... there has to be a will.
that's a lousy excuse if people are then complaining about trying to make ends meet
as the school report would say, "should try harder"

doodlebug4 - 08 Dec 2014 16:59 - 52466 of 81564

"There as to be a will." What rubbish, it's called a neccesity - whether people like cooking or not. It doesn't cost a fortune to make a plate of porridge and it's one of the best things that children can be fed before they go to school in the morning. This stuff about kids turning up at school without having any breakfast because families can't afford to feed them is just nonsense.

cynic - 08 Dec 2014 17:02 - 52467 of 81564

and nowadays there's "instant porridge" that takes about 3 minutes in the microwave ..... that, made with milk + some honey or sultanas and (s)he'll be set aright until lunchtime

or scrambled eggs = high protein and very quick indeed

goldfinger - 08 Dec 2014 17:03 - 52468 of 81564

OK for you who spends most of your time on the golf course some people dont have that luxury and very little time to cook.

Wheelchair access

goldfinger - 08 Dec 2014 17:08 - 52470 of 81564

Ohhh I see so a porridge dinner is OK FOR THEM but not good enough for me.

Ill have a cheap steak cut with trimmings.

Yes Cyners that just about sums up the Tories out of touch way of thinking.

cynic - 08 Dec 2014 17:14 - 52471 of 81564

very little time to cook
so how long does it take to cook a cheap and simple breakfast per above?

what would be a reasonable amount of time for cooking dinner (tea to you!)?
bear in mind that a good number of recipes that come readily to mind can be used several days over in the same or different formats ..... rather like the poor(er) families did in 50s

============

methinks you're really struggling to find a sensible escape

Haystack - 08 Dec 2014 17:21 - 52472 of 81564

That's about right. Poorer people will eat poorer quality and less desirable food. That's reality. They will drive cheaper cars, wear cheaper clothes. You have to budget in terms of what you want compared with what you can have. However, with a bit of thought, you can eat healthy food very cheaply.

cynic - 08 Dec 2014 17:25 - 52473 of 81564

don't confuse cheaper cuts of meat with being poorer quality - eg oxtail, ox cheeks, belly pork, chicken livers, braising steak (make your own good quality mince with that too)

similarly, (even) supermarkets almost give away meat and fish and vegetables and bread that is on its last sell by date - damn fool institution that is

doodlebug4 - 08 Dec 2014 17:32 - 52474 of 81564

I don't think many people use left overs from the previous day any more. One of my favourites growing up was stovies = left over potatoes cooked in a frying pan with some corned beef or bits of bacon.

cynic - 08 Dec 2014 17:39 - 52475 of 81564

certainly we regularly eat a soup or a stew 2 days running
a roast chicken will also do at least two meals for us

nevertheless, what you say is patently true, but as the old saying goes, waste not want not .....
can't be bothered to cook? ...... can't be bothered to put even a bit of effort into making cheaper meals and so on and so on?
sympathy can quickly start to evaporate

He's just training to be an MP.

Haystack - 08 Dec 2014 18:39 - 52478 of 81564

Looks like he is fully trained!

Haystack - 08 Dec 2014 18:59 - 52479 of 81564

That's the way to do it!

goldfinger - 08 Dec 2014 19:36 - 52480 of 81564

Dont worry HAYS not long now before your Mansion Tax DEMAND comes through your letter box..........2t.gif

aldwickk - 08 Dec 2014 19:40 - 52481 of 81564

goldfinger . When your in a hole stop digging, or you could take Fred's advice when your in a corner and do a bit of ducking and diving and twist the question onto another subject

Haystack - 08 Dec 2014 19:45 - 52482 of 81564

There are ways to avoid the 'mansion tax'.
