Marcel, did you mean what do brokers do in general?

As I understand it (because I've never read about it or really given it much thought before) handling company relations with investors is about the size of it. Organising things like share placings and other forms of fundraising, including the investor presentations and actually getting the shares into the stock market, maintaining the register of shareholders, etc. Also in many cases publishing analysis and reports. I could go on, but I think you get the drift.

Thankyou soultrader

georgetrio - 02 Aug 2006 11:56 - 544 of 1049

should we call them spin doctors? or movers and shakers?

explosive - 02 Aug 2006 19:26 - 545 of 1049

In VSAs case it'd be more like 'bump & grind'....

soul traders - 03 Aug 2006 11:00 - 546 of 1049

What about "pump 'n' slump"?

soul traders - 03 Aug 2006 11:06 - 547 of 1049

Anyway, never mind the share price - feel the potential!

In case you haven't seen it, somebody posted the following on the Stanelco (SEO) thread at the weekend, after it had slumped around 80% in just over a year. He and a few other stalwarts are still holding, by the way.

"The reason the share price dropped is that the other investors aren't as clever as we are."

I LMAO'd for about half an hour.

Anyway, I'm sure that all the BLR shareholders are very clever indeed (I certainly am - and very good-looking and modest, too!) and that together we will be rewarded.

austing2253 - 03 Aug 2006 11:17 - 548 of 1049

I totally aggree soul traders. I'm in for the long haul, sitting on well over 100K and waiting for them to rise in 5 - 10 years... 1 - 2 would be nice...

georgetrio - 03 Aug 2006 12:05 - 549 of 1049

THERE IS SOMETHING AS A LITTLE FISH IN BIG WATERS THAT I CAN NOT PUT UP WITH AND THAT IS INVESTMENT "abortion". excuse my term in this case.
usually, this abortion happens, when an investor does not bother to do any homework before engaging himself or herself. he or she will then sell the shares before the share leaps towards heaven. this action then confuses the market depending on the size of the sales, sending the sp down. however long haul investor will be rewarded deservedly without question for coping with this trouble.
mind you the authors of these abortions are the big fishes who can afford to burn up to 20per cent of their millions without any fear.
will give BLR a chance to grow. Abortion is a nasty thing isnt it?

Must be bad news on the way ? sp just keeps going down & down.... does not feel like a company that's going places !

soul traders - 09 Aug 2006 10:23 - 552 of 1049

Skyhigh, fretting is bad for your health. If I were you I'd read the report mentioned in Moneyman's link above, as it'll help you to concentrate on the positive side.

austing2253 - 09 Aug 2006 14:20 - 553 of 1049

I totally agree soul traders... If you can't take the ups and especially the downs then put your money into an ISA.

(No need to worry at all then, unless conscription is brought back and we all end up fighting somebody elses war in the middle east.)

I'm not aiming for a quick buck. I'm in for the longer term, 5 - 10 years and hopefully be able to take early retirement. If it doesn't happen then I will just have to work 'til I'm 65...

skyhigh - 09 Aug 2006 14:30 - 554 of 1049

Totally agree with both of you. I'm in for the long term also ....it's just grim having to take all the downs at the moments...be nice to get some ups for a change !
