How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

500k traded on the Melbourne cup already. Race doesn't start till 4am this morning. May give that one a miss!

OMG, Best Mate has just died after the big race at Exeter today.

Very sad.

Any views on tonites footie?

Chelsea price interests me - depending on which stats you look at - they stuffed Betis at home last week and Betis are struggling in La Liga, however, Chelseas recent away form in Europe is dire, I think they have won 1 of the last 5.

Another interesting stat on Chelsea this yr - in 10 second halfs, they have won all 10 scoring 20 goals and not conceded once.

Going to back Chelsea, just a question of whether to go in at the start or wait for the price to drift.

Liverpool at 1.43 look too short to beat anyone, even if it is a European game and Anderlecht are poor but not a game i plan to get involved in

Porto look a huge price to win at Milan (played behind closed doors) at 8.8. Milans recent form hasnt been great and Porto beat them 2-1 in the corresponding fixture last week

Is the chelsea game not on tv??????

Fundamentalist - 01 Nov 2005 19:34 - 5462 of 10502

I'll answer my own question - its on ITV4 - which if you have sky is on channel 136 - Men and Motors for some reason

bakko - 01 Nov 2005 19:44 - 5463 of 10502

Steve, Thanks for footy updates.

I'm going to be on Chelsea tonight as they'll be up for sealing qualification. Can't see them losing this one plus Betis are 3rd from bottom in La Liga.

Can't see value in other games and will wait to see how they pan out before jumping in

Scripophilist - 01 Nov 2005 19:47 - 5464 of 10502

I'm out of action tonight but will have the TV on.

Are you guys going to the MAM traders meet? Would be good to meet up again.

Fundamentalist - 01 Nov 2005 19:49 - 5465 of 10502

Scrip

if you mean next friday then yep, i will be present and im pretty sure John and Bak are both going

bakko - 01 Nov 2005 19:50 - 5466 of 10502

Scrip, Definitely there too

Fundamentalist - 01 Nov 2005 19:52 - 5467 of 10502

Scrip

are you doing a slot?

Chelsea look to have little attacking options tonight with only Robben and Gudjohnsen supported by Cole and Lampard - gonna wait before backing them

Fundamentalist - 01 Nov 2005 19:54 - 5468 of 10502

Duff, Wright Phillips and Drogba on the bench

Scripophilist - 01 Nov 2005 19:54 - 5469 of 10502

Yes, I have had my arm twisted in several places.

Liverpool look too short to me, but after last year you wouldn't hold anything against them would you?

Fundamentalist - 01 Nov 2005 19:55 - 5470 of 10502

agree scrip, i couldnt back them at 1.43 against anyone currently though they appear a different side in europe and anderlecht are poor and have nothing left to play for - 0-0 maybe?

Fundamentalist - 01 Nov 2005 20:05 - 5471 of 10502

Get in - Porto have gone 1-0 up in Milan :-)
