How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Next Friday after the meet sounds good to me guys.

Couldn't get on the PC last night to trade cos my daughter was doing her Uni work. I didn't have the heart to tell her I wanted on it. Looks like a laptop is on the cards for her Xmas prezzy.

Come to think of it she'll be on it tonight too. She can buy her own bloody laptop THIS WEEKEND!!

Scripophilist - 02 Nov 2005 16:08 - 5516 of 10502

Staples are selling an excellent value IBM laptop at the moment for 399. I bought one as a spare PC for the office.

John

tell her if you can have the pc tonight you'll earn enough to buy her a laptop!!!

Scrip

dead heat rules - you will have the same profit if you were greened up.
The way it works is effectively you half your stake on each of the winners. If you were just a punter and had backed 1 horse for 100 at 4.0 you would win 300 + 100 stake back = 400. In adead heat you effectively have 50 at 4.0 so 150 + 50 stake back

Sorry to be lazy Scrip - you got details handy on the laptop please?

Scripophilist - 02 Nov 2005 16:55 - 5519 of 10502

Thanks Steve.

Choccie, you lurker you.

I nipped on their web site but nothing there. The laptop is the new generation of Lenovo built stuff. I'm a very pleased with it, they seem to have retained the IBM QA mantra but just built it cheaper.

Don't have the details to hand but nip in your local Staples and its usually displayed as the hero product.

Friday is fine...should be a good day and night so looking forward to it.

Cheers Scrip :)
Hey I only pop in for the running commentary.
Hope it'll subliminally stick one day ;)

Tonights footie anyone? (except John obviously :-) )

Arsenal should win though with a draw enough to guarantee they go through 1.26 looks awfully skinny to me

Man Utd games are no go currently - whilst good enough to win, the loss against Boro makes them unbackable at 2.38 for me

Werder Bremen look good value at 1.81 to me - needing to win, at home against a side struggling for goals

Juve v Bayern looks like it could be a cracker and could make a case looking attractive at the prices (so itll probably be a draw!!!)

Barca should win comfortably but again price is too skinny to get involved - if level at half time will look to back Barca

Also like over 2.5 goals in barca game at 2.36 and under 2.5 goals in Juve Bayern game at 2.48

Harlosh - 02 Nov 2005 18:20 - 5523 of 10502

Thanks for nod re the laptop Scrip. I'll take a look.

Scripophilist - 02 Nov 2005 18:35 - 5524 of 10502

"Also like over 2.5 goals in barca game at 2.36"

Looks value.

I think Barca and Arsenal are backable tonight because the imperative to win is there but I would probably hedge the position in the correct score market just to be safe.

WOODIE - 02 Nov 2005 18:47 - 5525 of 10502

fundy the barca game is 2.36 for under 2.5 goals over is 1.73

Fundamentalist - 02 Nov 2005 18:50 - 5526 of 10502

thanks woodie :-(

WOODIE - 02 Nov 2005 18:51 - 5527 of 10502

my best bet of the night is the man u game over 2.5 at 2.5 leaking goals it looks best value bet of the night hence the word LOOKS after last night i thought chelsea were nailed on to win .

Bugz - 02 Nov 2005 19:32 - 5528 of 10502

No mention of the Ajax game lads......

bakko - 02 Nov 2005 19:46 - 5529 of 10502

Evening All,

There isn't much value around tonight. Think I'll wait for half time if Arsenal or Barca don't score before.

Thun v Ajax....don't really know too much about these teams. Best to keep a wide berth. Odds don't suggest much either

bakko - 02 Nov 2005 19:52 - 5530 of 10502

Barca already 1-0 up

Fundamentalist - 02 Nov 2005 20:01 - 5531 of 10502

make that 2 for barca - over looking good lol

Good to see bremen 1 up :-)

Fundamentalist - 02 Nov 2005 20:07 - 5532 of 10502

Get in Henry

Scripophilist - 02 Nov 2005 20:10 - 5533 of 10502

Oh well, that's my work done then!

Scripophilist - 02 Nov 2005 20:23 - 5534 of 10502
