THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Nicky Morgan (L) and Michael Gove (R) arrive at the ball

The Conservative party on Monday night auctioned off a shoe shopping trip with Theresa May, home secretary, and dinner at the Carlton Club with Sajid Javid, the culture secretary, at its final big fundraiser gala ahead of the general election.

More than a thousand City figures, business chiefs and entrepreneurs gathered at the Grosvenor House Hotel in central London for the lavish Black & White Ball, where party chiefs hoped to raise up to £3m for their election war chest.

The auction drew in hundreds of thousands of pounds for party coffers, with a night’s hire of private Mayfair club Annabel’s fetching £110,000. Other lots on offer included a trip on a private jet to Santorini, the use of a luxury 12-bed chalet in Verbier, a jogging session with Nicky Morgan, education secretary, and a “hearty weeknight roast chicken dinner” at chief whip Michael Gove’s home.

I have always wanted to see Gove sitting on the pavement with cap in hand!

Napoleon.

Put up with the first 20-30 pages, the book then becomes very engaging. (Well it was for me, and reflects the 50s and 60s for many.)

I was born lucky and my guess so were you.

Boris Johnson calls for EU referendum to be brought forward

The Mayor of London has said that the referendum on the UK's continued membership of the European Union should be brought forward

By Peter Dominiczak, Political Editor

5:50PM GMT 10 Feb 2015

David Cameron should hold an in-out referendum on Britain’s membership next year to “get it done and knock it on the head”, Boris Johnson has said.

The Mayor of London, who is currently on a visit to America, said that a vote should be held as soon as possible because “this problem is not going away”.

He said that an un-reformed Europe is bad for Britain and said that there is “huge support” for the Prime Minister’s bid to renegotiate the UK’s relationship with Brussels before holding a referendum.

His comments follow reports that figures in Downing Street are exploring the possibility of holding the referendum next year.

However, there are concerns that holding the vote in 2016 will not give ministers enough time to renegotiate with Brussels.

Mr Johnson was responding to a call from John Longworth, the head of the British Chambers of Commerce, to hold the in-out referendum next year in order to end uncertainty for businesses.

The Mayor of London told LBC Radio: “That’s not a bad idea by the way. Let’s get it done and knock it on the head and do it for the good of Europe. This problem is not going away. The whole Eurozone is mired in low growth, low productivity, they have a very anti-competitive environment there, a terrible system of regulation coming from Brussels.

“We have huge support in Britain for a Conservative-led campaign to reform the EU and get some change.”

And you can watch Georgie Boy and Me on the come dancing show to celebrate.

If the Euro continues to drop : it will be viable to buy new cars abroad once again !...

ExecLine - 11 Feb 2015 11:59 - 56519 of 81564

The car dealers in the UK then join together, in what can only be described as a 'fashionable way', and collectively refer to such cars as 'Imports'.

They then further unite and say, "We don't touch Imports".

Then, because they have made it hard for a punter to sell on an Import into the trade, the value of these cars drops excessively.

Thus the initial saving is lost later when the seller gets a low trade in value.

But how about selling such Imports back to the trade out of the UK? That might be the answer to rescue the lost value at 'trade in time'.

At this time, one then has to consider the Euro/GBP relationship once again. So the whole thing is a bit of a gamble and does require a lot of thought.

I imported a new Land Cruiser out of Cyprus years ago, saving myself £6,500 and also earning good profits for:

1. My car dealer in Leicester.
2. His agent in Cyprus.
3. The agent's Cyprus Toyota dealership.
4. The importer in Cyprus who supplied the Toyota dealership in Cyprus

Amazing, eh? Back in 2000 this new LC cost me 'roughly' a mere £27k in total. I think they are now around £58k in the UK???
