Please report bugs and enhancements (BUGS)

andy.lovell - 04 Nov 2002 11:26

If you're having any problems, or want to suggest some improvements, please post below!

Level2 changes
In the last few weeks we've needed to implement some code changes to make us compliant with the LSE's rules on the access of Level2 data.

The following requirement is now in place:
You can only use 1 program on 1 computer to access Level2 on MoneyAM using a single username.

This means that you are able to view as many Level2 windows using any one particular browser, or program, that you wish, however you will not be able to use both Firefox and Internet Explorer at the same time (the same goes for using Quote Tracker or TradeSeeker at the same time as viewing it using a web browser)

If you find you're being logged off of MoneyAM's Level2 with the message 'you've logged on from another location' then check the above and make sure you're not running any other programs at the same time before reporting this as a bug.

Global Trader never seems to have problems with its platform including with its level 2, at least a lot less than ET/Money AM (albeit GT level 2 is bare bones).

dave leach - 14 Jun 2007 10:34 - 5867 of 7315

ok nothing is likely to be 100% but this outage has been happening daily for a long long time hence my frustration.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 14 Jun 2007 10:34 - 5868 of 7315

Guys,

The site should now start to come back, we are working to resolve any remedial issues. We will also be investigating what has caused this and putting measures in place to ensure it does not happen again.

Thanks Ian. Would really like to thinkthat the frequent issues with this service will be a thing of the past fairly soon. It has been really frustrating with its continued slowness most of this morning & then nothing.

kimoldfield - 14 Jun 2007 10:48 - 5870 of 7315

As a point of interest Dave, you seem to be having problems on a fairly grand scale, until today I have not experienced much other than an occasional down, sometimes L2 a little slow but seems to resolve very quickly. I use a Mac OS 10.4.9 with Safari, is your computer similar or are you running Windows? It may be just coincidence and I am logged on at times when there are no problems, but could it be your OS that causes hiccups? Just a thought.

no, plenty on advfn are peeved with the service, i prefer the lev 2 to advfn but this is stretching my patience now.

kimoldfield - 14 Jun 2007 11:14 - 5872 of 7315

I can understand your frustration Dave, strange to say, I found advfn to be a pain, always going down and very, very slow to load at times. The computer gods move in mysterious ways!

Isaacs - 14 Jun 2007 14:56 - 5873 of 7315

Level 2 playing up again here. Connection dropping briefly and now very slow to load new L2 windows. Anybody else or just me?

IanT(MoneyAM) - 14 Jun 2007 14:57 - 5874 of 7315

Isaacs,

We have no reported problems - can you try logging out and trying again?

Ian

Isaacs - 14 Jun 2007 15:01 - 5875 of 7315

Ah logged out and now fine except back to only being able to access 4 level 2 windows. Been fine with 6 as normal for last few days. I give up.....

IanT(MoneyAM) - 14 Jun 2007 15:07 - 5876 of 7315

Isaacs,

I can only assume that your operating system is limiting the number of java instances you can open up at one time.

Sorry I cannot be of more help,

Ian

Isaacs - 14 Jun 2007 15:10 - 5877 of 7315

Yes sorry doesn't seem like it is your problem. Just getting a bit fed up. Sometimes I reboot and still limiting me to four. Sometimes goes back to six being fine. Bit confusing.

PW Carnell - 14 Jun 2007 15:11 - 5878 of 7315

Sure its been annoying and potentially expensive, and its getting a fair amount of stick on advfn but mams customer service is miles ahead.

greekman - 14 Jun 2007 16:46 - 5879 of 7315

OK not the most patient person on the planet (ask the wife) and when systems are problematic I also find it very frustrating, BUT I have tried, ADVFN and Interactive Investor, and have found Moneyam easily the best of the lot.
Also when things do go wrong, you try contacting their customer services, (especially iii ) you sometimes wait till the next day for a response. Often you can't even find out if it is their end fault or not.
At least with this site you know very quickly if the fault is their end and what they are doing about it.
Yes Moneyam could perhaps find a better feed supplier (if that's the problem) but is there one out there.
I do repeat I fully understand others frustration, and am not looking to make excuses for Moneyam just stating what I have found when comparing sites.
Hoping for a better day tomorrow!

MightyMicro - 15 Jun 2007 01:54 - 5880 of 7315

I've resisted sticking my oar in until now, but I feel that a comment from me is not inappropriate. I have to confess to having been involved in the construction of MoneyAM.

I have quite a bit of experience of dealing with various market data feeds. What I would say is that none are 100% reliable or well managed. And they are forever changing, their definition is volatile and needs constant tracking.

Not so long ago, even the mighty Reuters managed to cut the entire City off for about six hours. The fact is, the big institutions use two or three feeds and systems (Reuters, Bloomberg, Thompson, whoever) to give themselves some resilience to these events -- but this is expensive, really expensive. I can think of one major institution that I know pays just one supplier 40m/year for data. Clearly, MoneyAM can't stretch to that if you, its users, can't share that burden.

I'm sure that many people realise that a number of problems are caused by issues at the client end -- on your PC. An institution has an IT department that manages all that stuff, MoneyAM has to rely on each and every one of its users to be his or her own competent IT manager and to keep their environment in good order.

Poor old IanT gets to be everybody's "Help Desk" without the benefit of knowing what the heck you've done to your machine or what you're running on it or, indeed, what kind of machine it is. For my money he does a pretty damn good job in the circumstances, often responding within a couple of minutes to issues. Who else does that?

MM - Seconded

Pond Life - 15 Jun 2007 09:09 - 5882 of 7315

Ian,
As you can see, I've managed to log in at work. I still can't get streaming prices, however. All I get is a grey sqaure where the prices used to be. That's something of an improvement because I was getting a message that said 'connection lost, trying to reconnect'. Any more ideas?
Thanks in advance.

IanT(MoneyAM) - 15 Jun 2007 09:14 - 5883 of 7315

Pond,

YOu could try clearing out your cookeis to see if that makes a difference, or you may want to try installing the latest version of Java to make sure that is up to date.

If you need help with either of these, just drop me an E mail - ian@moneyam.com

MM - Thirded. Keep up the good work Ian. Much appreciated by me and most others no doubt.
Now do something about Tate's share price :-)

Seymour Clearly - 15 Jun 2007 17:29 - 5885 of 7315

Ian, not really a problem, more an observation. On the Traders thread, the FTSE/World indices and the % gainers/losers have blue or orange tabs. The active one is orange. However, all the other headers; AFX/RNS and Heatmap have blue headers. It would make more sense to me if all the active ones were blue where there was a choice, not orange. I'll post this on the Traders thread as well and see if we get any comments. Happy to be overruled on this though :-)

Oh, and can I fourth MM's comments.
