Good news and very encouraging.

grannyboy - 02 Feb 2011 07:22 - 613 of 707

Yes agree Pro , RNS gives the air of confidence... onwards and up!!!

Proselenes - 02 Feb 2011 07:25 - 614 of 707

Prelim results this month BUT now we know :

Strong gas shows in the targets - which validates the modelling.

Gas recovered to surface, so looks like it will be a producer and not just a geologic well.

Looks very positive and we should see AST fly past 10p now.

grannyboy - 02 Feb 2011 08:07 - 615 of 707

Am i looking at the right share?? the shares drop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"............Ascent Resources (LON:AST) Plc (BUY, 20p) (AST, 8.5p, ▼ (4.23%)) (AST) announced that is has received all the necessary consents to complete the transaction with EnQuest Plc (Enquest) whereby AST would acquire an additional 48.75% interest in the Petisovci Project in Slovenia, as announced on 21 December 2010.

Accordingly, Mr. Graham Cooper (EnQuests head of business development) has been appointed to the Board of Ascent as a representative of EnQuest, which will provide technical support to Ascent for the Petisovci Project, as well as for the evaluation of future European business development opportunities. AST also provided an update on the Pg-11 evaluation well in the Petisovci Project. The well is drilling ahead in an 8-1/2" hole and the current depth is 2,799m within the Miocene reservoir sequence. Two 18m cores have been successfully cut and recovered from two of those intervals, one from the historically non-productive and shallowest 'A' sands and the second from the 'D' sands. Two short duration openhole tests have been attempted, the first in the 'A' sands recovered gas to surface, with no associated water production, the second in the 'D' sands was prematurely terminated due to indications of the tool having been plugged. The Pg-11 evaluation well is designed to be drilled to a 3,050m total depth (T.D.) and one more core is planned to be taken from the 'E' sands. Once T.D. is reached, logs will be run over the entire reservoir section. The interpretation of the logs and the analysis of the core over the coming months will help determine any potential re-development strategy. Preliminary well results are anticipated to be available during February 2011.

Comment: Petisvoci is the main project for the company and will be the focus of operations during 2011. As we have commented previously, the deal with EnQuest has a number of benefits to AST including the increased exposure to the Petisvoci and future business opportunities in Europe. The primary objective of the Pg-11 well is to retrieve core samples and run logs so that the data can be used to calibrate the 3D seismic that has already been acquired and to enhance the reservoir model. On this note it appears that the company is progressing to the plan. Although recovering gas from the A sands is encouraging there is not sufficient information on the quantity and duration of the test to make a judgement. There is still much work to be done to achieve commercial gas production form the Petisvocis tight sands."

...William Arnstein, oil and gas analyst at finnCap, described the initial results as encouraging but he notes that it is still too early to draw a conclusion on commercial potential.

With Pg-11 just 250 metres above total depth we would expect the shares to perform well as investor interest grows ahead of preliminary results later this month, Arnstein said in a note to clients. .......
