THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Earlier in the morning, the former Bradford West MP George Galloway lost out to Labour's Naseem Shah, who won with more than 19,000 votes.

Mr Galloway took the traditional Labour stronghold in a by-election in 2012 with a majority of 10,140 votes.
Earlier, he was reported to police by Bradford Council for allegedly breaking election laws. He is said to have retweeted his party's own exit poll before voting ended.
Ms Shah criticised Mr Galloway's campaign, saying it had "demeaned democracy".

'Personal attacks'
The Labour candidate won with a majority of more than 11,000. Mr Galloway's Respect party won 8,557 votes and the Conservatives 6,160.

Ms Shah is a political newcomer who has overcome childhood poverty, a teenage forced marriage and the imprisonment of her mother for killing an abusive partner.
She had urged voters to reject Mr Galloway, saying: "We do not need a one-man Messiah to tell us how to come and fix up Bradford.''

After being elected, Ms Shah said: "I want to thank the people of Bradford West. You have placed your trust in me to be your voice in Parliament. Can I thank all of my opponents - with the exception of one - who all conducted themselves with dignity and fought the election on issues in the spirit of friendly rivalry. To Mr Galloway, I say that your campaign demeaned our democracy, but personal attacks on me have not worked. The people of Bradford West have seen through this and you have been sent on your way."

An in-out referendum on the EU is on

Cameron reeled off a list of pledges for the next five years and emphatically underlined the commitment that will likely dominate political debate for the next two years:

And yes we will deliver that in-out referendum on our future in Europe.

Haystack - 08 May 2015 14:11 - 59945 of 81564

It won't help. There will be a referendum and Cameron will campaign for a stay in vote and that is how the public will vote.

Haystack - 08 May 2015 14:13 - 59946 of 81564

This is Labour's least seats since the disaster of Michael Foot.

Haystack - 08 May 2015 14:19 - 59947 of 81564

The Conservatives held their seat in Scotland. That's a better rate than Labour who lost 40.

ExecLine - 08 May 2015 14:19 - 59948 of 81564

I think the result of an 'In/Out EU Referendum' would give a majority of 'In'.

But we do need to negotiate some changes.

For one thing, the UK's beaurocrats absolutely overdose on EU regulations but does Spain, Portugal, France, Greece? Ans: NO!

Dil - 08 May 2015 14:49 - 59949 of 81564

Labour lost the Gower their longest held seat to the Conservatives. It's been a Labour seat for the last 100 years !

unbelievable
considering that no one expected more than 290/295 seats, it's amazing the polls and the calcs, even from ashcroft, were so far adrift

i really do hope that the conservatives do not prove as spiteful in their own way as labour would have done in theirs
however, i don't see how you lop £12bn off the welfare budget in the course of the parliament, but then that of course becomes the annual budget, without serious nastiness

jimmy b - 08 May 2015 15:56 - 59953 of 81564

Fred's still ranting !!
