Scussy ;-)

The Pci card is a Sappire ati radeon 9250 128mb, did wonder if this could be the reason games crash etc, does it really matter what the brand is so long as its ATI/Nvida chip set?

scussy - 13 Sep 2007 00:23 - 6085 of 11003

does not matter what brand you go for,i just look for value for money at the time,

have a look HERE and TOM will tell all much better then me,
the bigger and better graphics need a good power supply,as TOM will say,
this is the joy (er NOT) with up grading,i have done this a couple of times and then
said i should have just got a new all singing and dancing one to last the next 5 years,
if you need a new graphics card, then a power supply to run it,thats 180 for them,
then will the cpu be ok or do i need a faster one,
i think the answer could be keep the PC for the basics, and get a gaming pc,

Richgit69 - 13 Sep 2007 08:33 - 6086 of 11003

scussy, thanks

Got a machine in the other room which plays games great but it gets lonely in there ;-)

The one I am using now is only a year old, thought if I uograded this one then I wouldnt feel I was been sent to coventry ;-)

Can someone please advise, I use BT's yahoo browser with tabs, when I have several tabs open and say i refresh one tab then move to another it keeps taking me back to the tab which is refreshing, until it has updated. This only happens on some sites and others will refresh in the background allowing me to continue viewing the page/tab i have since moved to. My question is can this be altered with a setting in the browser or is it down to the writers of the website which keep their page to the forefront while refreshing?

I'm sticking with my abacus.
My (very expensive) experience is that an upgrade merely means getting rid of all the old bugs I've learned to live with and replacing them with new updated superbugs.

Run-time error. Please bang any key with your forehead to continue.

scussy, nice thanks ;-)

stockbunny - 16 Sep 2007 16:11 - 6091 of 11003

Ok update - the bunny's gone wireless - managed to set it up, 2 hardwired and 1 laptop, get it working and secure - only took 5 1/2 hours, mainly due to son's laptop being new and MSVista!
Vista as far as I can see is a pain, existing discs - ISP etc - wont work, had to go to ISP site and get Vista versions and that took time. So in short if I can manage a Netgear anyone can LOL but I will say it was a case of following instincts more then instructions as frankly they are 'woolly' and not as expected having installed DSL external modems etc. So the instructions could do with being revamped to stop people being put off that its harder then it really is.

I'm glad that you've got it sorted. However, you have probably gone the long way round. One of the many advantages of using an ADSL router is that your computers only have to connect to the network which all versions of windows do (almost) automatically. You should not have to install anything from your ISP unless they are one of the very few that insist that everything goes through their proxy server. If that is the case, change your ISP.

In my experience, you are better off uninstalling any software that your ISP provides. In most cases, it's main function is to get you to look at their adverts.

Govnor

It's an Internet Explorer bug as far as I can see. The content on certain webpages triggers the tab to steal focus. Try Firefox, or even better Opera which pioneered tabbed browsing.

aldwickk - 18 Sep 2007 10:00 - 6094 of 11003

How can i put a photo of myself which is on my AOL profile, as my buddy icon which shows up when i IM or use a AOL message board.

aldwickk - 18 Sep 2007 10:02 - 6095 of 11003

A OL online help couldn't give me a answer

Guvnor - 18 Sep 2007 11:19 - 6096 of 11003

miner49er, Thanks

Haystack - 21 Sep 2007 22:02 - 6097 of 11003

aldwickk

edit, setings, expressions, browse

then select a picture

aldwickk - 21 Sep 2007 23:43 - 6098 of 11003

Haystack,

I have just got this reply from one of the AOL message boards.

Well, maybe no-one will remember, but I did use a personal photograph to create it. I have that photo in Picasa and AOL Pictures, so I can't remember which one was used, but I'm guessing the AOL Pictures version. I accessed the Buddy Icon site through AOL.com (the American site, not the UK one) using Firefox, not the AOL client software (spit, spit!!!!). It took a bit of fiddling, but it eventually stuck, so it is possible, at least theoretically. This was less than three months ago I would guess.

Hi you are correct :o)

If you use AIM you can use the Buddy Icon Maker plugin....here's one I made earlier (it SHOULD show in the New Board format, don't think it works in the old board format though)

I have gone to the buddy site but am having trouble uploading AIM and signing on.

aldwickk - 22 Sep 2007 10:19 - 6099 of 11003

Haystacks,

Yes, your way is much more simple only thing is i need to reduce the pic to 7168 bytes. Icon size

aldwickk - 22 Sep 2007 13:09 - 6101 of 11003

Ok i will have a look at that . What i did in the end was to get the pic from my AIM pic gallery which had a icon size photo and send it to my pic folder. Anyway thanks for all your help.

Richgit69 - 23 Sep 2007 11:08 - 6102 of 11003

Anyone know of a motherboard with 2 PCI-e slots or AGP and PCI-e slot together even a prebuilt PC will do upto 4gb or 8g and future proof

stockbunny - 25 Sep 2007 09:35 - 6103 of 11003

HI Guys :>)
OK got a pest on the system a Dialer.Generic according to Norton which it doesn't seem to be able to remove, odd thing is according to scan its high risk but checking it on Nortons site its classified as low risk - slight inconsistancy there! Norton isn't zapping it, downloaded and ran AVG which didn't even pick it up. Seems to be lodged in a programe file onlineservices BT but can't track it down via search option on computer. Gone into windows explorer found online services BT in programe files but still no sign of this thing - any thoughts? Cheers
