Did you settle for the first job you were offered, or did you look around for one which suited you and your family?

Like many, in one way, I was an economic migrant and "got on my bike" and "changed" job and area I worked in, many different times until I found what suited me and I settled. (Opportunistic.)

A lot of the migrants are young and probably hoping for better conditions and more for themselves and their families.

One of my daughters works for the "Home Office" and has just come back from meetings and discussions in different places in Europe on the "migrant" problem. As she says, the problems complex, confusing and difficult to resolve. Also, directives from above seem often to try and save the arses of the present Ministers than the problems.

fred - there's a major difference between accepting the first job you are offered, genuine war refugees fleeing for their lives and economic refugees who fancy working the system

Previous to retiring my house often felt like a hotel for months on end.

After, retiring, we downsized and the present house doesn't seem to have enough room to swing a cat, leave alone provide hospitality for other than family.

A pity, but reality!

Older homeowners who ‘sit quite happily in a very big house’ should be given more encouragement to sell up and downsize, it was claimed yesterday.

Ministers should look at ways to tackle the problem of retired people living in properties that are too big for them, says a major financial watchdog.

A senior official risked the wrath of millions of mortgage-free pensioners who remain in family homes when she said they may need to be steered towards moving to retirement housing.


Lynda Blackwell, head of mortgages at the Financial Conduct Authority, said Britain had a ‘real issue with the last-time buyer’. But her comments were described as ‘insulting’ and ‘unhelpful’ last night.

Of course they have Jimmy. Victor Orban may be a nutter, in the words of my Hungarian born physiotherapist, but he has done the right thing in this case. The lefties in the EU are quietly very happy with what he is doing also. Particularly Merkel.

jimmy - i concur, and think cameron is absolutely right to say that uk will only accept refugees from official camps within or on the borders of syria ..... it's far from foolproof, but at least there is some control

iturama , Merkel hasn't helped the situation by declaring that Germany would take 800 thousand migrants now they can't cope ,but your right the rest of the EU is probably happy with what he's doing .

Like you say cynic we can help people ,the right people because trust me tons of those migrants at the borders are not the people we should be helping , plus (and Fred will blow a fuse here) terrorists will infiltrate this way.
