Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).
Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.
cheers GF.

Of course they have Jimmy. Victor Orban may be a nutter, in the words of my Hungarian born physiotherapist, but he has done the right thing in this case. The lefties in the EU are quietly very happy with what he is doing also. Particularly Merkel.
As for Fred, I squelched him years ago. He is not an idiot but he posts the same thing over and over again. Like a child walking around the house banging a fricken drum.

jimmy - i concur, and think cameron is absolutely right to say that uk will only accept refugees from official camps within or on the borders of syria ..... it's far from foolproof, but at least there is some control

iturama , Merkel hasn't helped the situation by declaring that Germany would take 800 thousand migrants now they can't cope ,but your right the rest of the EU is probably happy with what he's doing .
Like you say cynic we can help people ,the right people because trust me tons of those migrants at the borders are not the people we should be helping , plus (and Fred will blow a fuse here) terrorists will infiltrate this way.

Jimmy, she opened her mouth too soon. Then realized Germany couldn't cope with the numbers, apart from the security risk. The majority of the migrants have no intention of registering. That is why Hungary has done her a favour by by stemming the flow.
The whole idea of distributing these people around Europe is a nonsense. Once allocated and given papers, they will move again to wherever they please.
Frau Markel has shown who calls the shots in Europe, through this and her treatment of elected governments in Greece and Italy.
I have had a relaxed view of the EU since I have myself worked or consulted in a number of countries. I saw no reason why others shouldn't do the same. Recent events have convinced me that the EU project is self serving, hypocritical and undemocratic. It has changed my thinking and I will be voting to leave the EU.

Manuel.
The camper van is my bolt hole when things get really bad.
Comfortable beds, good shower, good kitchen, large fridge freezer. Excellent heating, comfortable arm chairs and high fi system. Limited Tv. Chef marvellous. BBQ for the
beaches, fishing rods on top. Storage room for enough food and water for 4weeks.
Perfect for overlooking beaches with book and glass of wine in hand or playing chess with grandson, who considers it his bolt hole as well. Thank god he doesn't drink alcohol yet.
I have tried my goddamndest to be kicked out of home, but it is the chain around my legs and a note saying remember "you are the bill payer" stay in your place.
Unfortunately, my wandering days are getting shorter.

Missed the musings of the "I'm all right, anyone that has nothing sure as shit ain't getting any of my surplus brigade . "
What happened to we are all gods children. We come into this world with nothing and leave the same way.
Step up, do the right thing. Help your brother when he is down, don't walk around ignoring what you see.
I would put money on it that if anyone of you were left to rot in some transit camp you would be off knocking on the doors of those with surplus to spare.
What's the alternative if we ignore their plight? A generation down the road the built up resentment will burst through any razor wire we erect now.

i take it that YOUR house doors are open to all and that you do not differentiate between genuine war refugees (syrians) and economic refugees from either within eu or anywhere else who think any (comparatively) rich european country with a good welfare state is fair target

Hold there now cynic. I started commenting about the UK stepping up and taking its share of the refugees we can't expect Jordan, lebanon etc to cope with all of them. I don't see a problem with taking up to 100k a year.

Neither can I, will10.
But hang on a minute..... Let's call the refugees 'immigrants' instead.
You can see what a rough time they have had, falling out of dinghies and the like. No doubt lots of them will have lost their passports, IDs or other paperwork.
Can you yet see where I am headed?
Just who exactly are they? What is their purpose and objective? Would it be perfectly safe to let them in?
Is there a better way to help them?
How about we send NATO into Syria to fight Assad and also ISIL?
Why don't we clear a space in Syria for them?

The UK is already taking more than its fair share. 20,000 over 5 years, is 20,000 too many.
