Israeli Gaza conflict?????? (GAZA)

Fred1new - 06 Jan 2009 19:21

Will this increase or decrease the likelihood of terrorist actions in America, Europe and the rest of the world?

If you were a member of a family murdered in this conflict, would you be seeking revenge?

Should Tzipi Livni and Ehud Olmert, be tried for war crimes if or when this conflict comes to an end?

What will the price of oil be in 4 weeks time?

cynic - 26 Nov 2012 08:35 - 6331 of 6906

and as i have posted several times, until the ordinary citizens from both sides of the divide give an unequivocal and loud message to their leaders that it's peace that they want, the conflict will continue - with plenty of outsiders rubbing their hands with glee, as peace would be a very bad result for them

Gausie - 26 Nov 2012 09:46 - 6332 of 6906

You know, the real problem is the flag wavers such as Tanker and Haystack. They don't get directly involved, but prefer instead to cheer their team on from the sidelines, and to vilify the opposition with shallow propaganda.

Unfortunately there are Haystacks and Tankers in every corner of the world, each urging their team on to greater atrocities and finding ways to defend the indefensible. Each team misunderstands their respective idiotic worldwide support and sees that support as something that legitimises their actions. "Both god and world support are on our side"

TANKER - 26 Nov 2012 10:09 - 6333 of 6906

wrong i have said sit down round table on live tv and then the world can
make a decision .
live on tv then we no who wants peace .
war is the worst thing we want .
make gaza and israel one country for all .with the same rights .
not what hamas and iran want of all jews dead.

cynic - 26 Nov 2012 10:42 - 6334 of 6906

Gausie - good post m8, though i'm afraid both HS and T (and fahel) would be considered far too moderate in their outlook by the rabid zealots in both camps

Tanks - make gaza and israel one country for all with the same rights .... this is almost exactly what the balfour declaration specified ..... do you also concur that israel should remain an entity and thus, almost by definition, would it be an israel-based constitution that would apply?

TANKER - 26 Nov 2012 10:50 - 6335 of 6906

a joint gov with all people the same freedom of movement and rights .
give and take threw the courts

Haystack - 26 Nov 2012 11:28 - 6336 of 6906

Unfortunately, that is a fantasy solution. Even Hamas have suggested a joint country. A major sticking point would be the Israeli constitution.

It is important that there is world opinion for the sides. That will be apparant from this Friday with the application of Palestine to join the UN. The level of world support will be clear when the UN votes about 6 to 1 in favour of Palestine.

cynic - 26 Nov 2012 11:43 - 6337 of 6906

surely the UN resolution is to confirm that the palestinians should have their own homeland (gaza for simplicity, and a comparatively modest area) and self rule of some kind and NOT that israel should effectively be dismantled, which is very different from your perpetual rant

TANKER - 26 Nov 2012 12:05 - 6338 of 6906

it is war mongers like you that are the problems you are a hateful sub human
hay who wants killings for your pleasure . you are slime of the worst kind

Haystack - 26 Nov 2012 12:06 - 6339 of 6906

The UN resolution is that Palestine should have observer status, similar to the Vatican and some others. It cover the West Bank and Gaza and is effectively 1967 borders. A major advantage for Palestine is that it gives access to the ICC and enables Palestine to have Israel charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity. This would specifically be for the current occupation of the West Bank.

cynic - 26 Nov 2012 12:18 - 6340 of 6906

f**k the war crimes crap ..... though you may think it important, it really is an irrelevance in the scheme of things

Palestine should have observer status
What does this mean?
i suspect it's just semi-membership of UN

apart from being a pretty placebo, at least for now, it really would not seem to progress a regional solution at all

TANKER - 26 Nov 2012 12:21 - 6341 of 6906

the UN can NOT have a TERRORIST org in it .
if they do then it is no more

Haystack - 26 Nov 2012 12:24 - 6342 of 6906

The status gives Palestine a number of benefits, apart from access to the ICC it gives a recognition and official status within the list of member countries. The ICC access is not to be ignored. A guilty verdict imposes a duty of arrest of the listed offenders. While a number of countries such as the US would not arrest Netenyahu or defence minister etc, there are probably around 120 that would.

Fred1new - 26 Nov 2012 12:38 - 6343 of 6906

I thought Netty was already on the "wanted" list.

cynic - 26 Nov 2012 12:40 - 6344 of 6906

i'm really not much interested in this latest hobby horse of HS's
as i wrote before - it's a complete side issue

Haystack - 26 Nov 2012 13:09 - 6345 of 6906

Israel is not treating it as a side issue. They have been sending delegates round the world to persuade countries not to vote for Palestine. BBoth Haaretz and Jerusalem Post newspapers are carrying front page stories about the UN bid.

cynic - 26 Nov 2012 13:33 - 6346 of 6906

not the same question as the one you raised previously!
for sure israel would not want any sort of palestinian presence in UN, but not through intrinsic fear of some prosecution or other.
if the boot was on a different foot, the likes of iran and syria etc etc would also be trying to drum support for the exclusion of israel

Haystack - 26 Nov 2012 13:46 - 6347 of 6906

This story in Haaretz from April this year may shed some light on the ICC issue. Palestinians tried to take Israel to ICC over operation cast lead. The ICC turned them down as they were not UN members or observers. This will change over the next few weeks.

http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/icc-rejects-palestinian-bid-to-investigate-israeli-war-crimes-during-cast-lead-gaza-operation-1.422397

Palestine will get upgraded to UN 'non member' state and have access to ICC.

cynic - 26 Nov 2012 14:11 - 6348 of 6906

side issue; side issue; side issue; side issue; side issue; side issue
gets boring reposting the same old thing, doesn't it

Israel Defence Minister Ehud Barak quits politics

The Israeli Defence Minister, Ehud Barak, has announced that he is quitting politics and will not be contesting January's general election.

Mr Barak, a former military chief of staff who served as prime minister from 1999 to 2001, said he would now concentrate on his personal life.

"I want to study, to write, to live and have a good time," he told reporters.

TANKER - 26 Nov 2012 15:04 - 6350 of 6906

allowing palestians in to the UN would be like puting FOXS in to a chicken coup
