tvc15 - 08 Jan 2008 11:58 - 6457 of 11003

how do I find out if I have a 32bit or 64bit on my computer? I am running windows xp home edition, 2002 service pack 2.

Optimist - 08 Jan 2008 12:09 - 6458 of 11003

Right click on My Comptuer and select properties - it will be 32bit.

tvc15 - 08 Jan 2008 12:14 - 6459 of 11003

It does not say it is 32bit though. Just the intel pentium thingy.

Sorry about that I've just checked and you are correct. I'm pretty certain that it would say if it was the 64bit OS. I any case, I don't thinh Microsoft ever released a 64 bit version of XP home and certainly not in 2002.

Why do you need to know?

tvc15 - 08 Jan 2008 12:35 - 6461 of 11003

Want to download virtualdub, 2 versions 64bit and 32bit.

Bolshi - 09 Jan 2008 13:34 - 6462 of 11003

I've just put in an extra ram memory in my spare 3rd slot to bring me up to ,hopefully, 1.5Gb. How do I know if it's working? Where can I look to see what Ram I've got?
I went back to the "Crucial" site (where I bought my additional memory from, and it's still showing slot 3 as empty.

Seymour Clearly - 09 Jan 2008 13:38 - 6463 of 11003

Bolshi,
My Computer

Seymour Clearly - 10 Jan 2008 07:46 - 6465 of 11003

Help- where's the recycle bin stored? - it's not on my desktop

Edit - found it:-)

Bolshi - 10 Jan 2008 09:21 - 6466 of 11003

SC. Your cleaning lady had just took it outside to empty in your wheelie bin. :-)

Seymour Clearly - 10 Jan 2008 13:08 - 6467 of 11003

Not before I got back the bits I threw out by mistake :-)

Had a wireless laptop for several months now. Twice taken it to other locations and it has failed to connect to the interenet. I had no problem with wireless connection with the routers, but when trying to connect with the internet it shows 'fail to connect with internet'. I have tried the diagnostic route and it appears that it won't recognise the IP of the server that is the supplier to where I am located. Do I need to download a programme to sort it.
Apologise in advance re my explanation but I am very technophobic (that's probably obvious).
Anyone help please.

HARRYCAT - 11 Jan 2008 12:16 - 6469 of 11003

Can anyone suggest a FREE (not 30 day trial) anti-virus program, please, for Vista Home basic.
I have tried AVG Free Edition but it is not compatible with Vista.
This is for a friend who is just starting up with computers, so not worth buying a package yet until he sees & understands what he wants.
Thanks

ExecLine - 11 Jan 2008 12:24 - 6470 of 11003

Here's a link to the Free Software recommended by the guys who look after all my PC needs.

Looking at their list, I selected Avast to have a further look at. It's Free Software with bags of support and seems to be OK with Vista.

I use Avast subscription for for my business and it does what it says on the tin. Using XP though not Vista.

hawick - 11 Jan 2008 13:26 - 6472 of 11003

Thanks ExecLine.

I use avast on my Vista - excellent imho. Thanks to this thread I have broadened my other 'defences' but day to day I still like Avast (free version fine for my needs) the best. And they have a good, also free, support forum, based in the US but posts after noon UK time usually get an answer within 30 minutes.

You can probably get a full bells and whistles version of McAfee Internet Security Dooda on eBay for a tenner.
