FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

UBS downgrades Autonomy Corporation from buy to neutral, target price raised from 2100p to 2550p.

LOL.

HARRYCAT - 23 Aug 2011 19:07 - 6572 of 21973

I assume your 'short DOW' got stopped out pdq?

skinny - 23 Aug 2011 19:36 - 6573 of 21973

Well mine did -30. I was tempted to go in higher, but my younger daughter turned up and informed me I'm going to be a grandad - so I was somewhat distracted!

cynic - 23 Aug 2011 19:42 - 6574 of 21973

cynic - 23 Aug 2011 21:01 - 6577 of 21973

closed 11162 - am quite tempted to short o'night but shall resist

cynic - 24 Aug 2011 11:00 - 6579 of 21973

all very quiet ..... let's hope it stays that way as i think we all need a breather or two .... but here's hoping that POG's figures tomorrow promote the same sort of excitement as seen with TLW and WPP this morning

HARRYCAT - 24 Aug 2011 12:07 - 6580 of 21973

And yet Admiral's figures were blisteringly good and the sp falls 7%! So not sure if good news is always reflected as sp increase.

cynic - 24 Aug 2011 13:33 - 6581 of 21973

cash Dow has jumped 40/50 points so it's a good bet that the durable goods numbers were better than expected ...... shall post same here when they are apparent

skinny - 24 Aug 2011 13:38 - 6582 of 21973

Durable Goods Orders ex Transportation previous 0.6% consensus -0.2% actual 0.7%
Durable Goods Orders previous-1.3% consensus 2.1% actual 4.0%

HARRYCAT - 24 Aug 2011 13:43 - 6583 of 21973

DOW is currently -90 (CNN) which looks odd if the goods figures are correct.

splat - 24 Aug 2011 13:50 - 6584 of 21973

it was a fair bit worse before the figs HC and as ever, perhaps yesterday's push was just a tad too frothy!

cynic - 24 Aug 2011 13:50 - 6585 of 21973

cash Dow is 11150 (-15)

halifax - 24 Aug 2011 13:51 - 6586 of 21973

Harry dow is currently -6.

skinny - 24 Aug 2011 13:52 - 6587 of 21973

:-)

HARRYCAT - 24 Aug 2011 14:55 - 6589 of 21973

halifax, where do you access your futures figures? (or did DOW rise 84 points in 8 minutes?) Currently use CNN & Bloomberg but they sometimes differ wildly, though I assume they are time delayed.

Bernard M - 24 Aug 2011 15:14 - 6590 of 21973

FTSE 5236 DOW 11267
