goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Jeremy Corbyn and Jack the Ripper: a party membership story

After a 9/11 apologist’s admission, imagine the hearing over Whitechapel killer’s bid to join Labour

Jeremy Corbyn, the UK Labour leader, faced anger when the party’s National Executive Committee, on which he sits, approved the membership of a man who has said the 9/11 bombers should “never be condemned” and made very unpleasant remarks about Jews. The decision has now been reversed but in the past Mr Corbyn and his allies have turned a blind eye to Holocaust deniers, sexists and bigots if they share the wider political goals.
Hello, sit down. This NEC panel is meeting to hear your appeal against the rejection of your application to join the Labour party. Let’s begin with the formalities. Name?
Jack the Ripper.
Ah, some kind of musician are you?
Er, no.
Sorry. So what do you do Mr Ripper?
I murder prostitutes.
Right. Well that’s not something we generally encourage but we mustn’t prejudge this. Are they western imperialist prostitutes?
(pauses) They could be.

Or perhaps capitalist prostitutes, helping to oppress the workers?
Well, they do insist on cash up front.
I see. Now I notice you list two major interests. Murdering prostitutes, well, I think we’ve covered that; but also campaigning against Britain’s nuclear deterrent. Jeremy is very committed to that second point.
Is he persuadable on the first?
Probably not, Jeremy only indulges violence in the cause of the anti-imperialist struggle. But he is opposed to the independent nuclear deterrent and we need people on whose support he can count.
You can rely on me.
Good. Well, I think we can overlook your outside interests for the bigger cause. But I should warn you there may be some blowback from Labour women, Mr Ripper. They take an unenlightened view on sexual violence even when perpetrated by an important comrade in the struggle.
I could talk to them.
Best not. We prefer to leave that to Momentum. But if you could try not to murder anyone from our sister organisations: Prostitutes for Peace, Prostitutes against Zionism. Oh and maybe dial down the mutilation a bit.
Really?
It’s not for us to impose bourgeois values on a comrade but it doesn’t play well with female voters. Oh, and if you do end up sharing a platform with Jeremy please don’t mention decriminalising the murder of prostitutes. He’s got the Tory press just waiting for him to slip up.
OK.
Well on that basis, welcome to the Labour party. OK, who’s next — ah yes this one’s via satellite link. Name?
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.
Your application was turned down by Labour International, bear with me, ah yes, because you are suspected of masterminding the 9/11 attacks.

It is an American lie.
Mr Mohammed, we cannot be seen to condone 9/11 but Jeremy has been a staunch opponent of neocolonialist oppression and he understands — while obviously not endorsing mass murder — that you were driven to this action by the atrocities against you by western powers. He also knows that your actions need to be seen through the lens of the struggle against the Zionist imperialist west.
Precisely.
Well, it will be good to have your support in the fight against western intervention in the region. But I will need your assurance that you will not use party facilities to plan any more acts of terror — I do apologise — I mean acts of resistance. OK?
Great.
Right, this is the last one. In you come. So who are you?
Janet Jones.
You are a nurse and you want to fight for the NHS. Sounds good.
Yes. Also, I’m 32 and I can’t afford to buy my home.
A bit less of the me, me, me, please love. Lots of people have problems.
I’m also passionate about justice for Syria and international peace.
That’s better. Go on.
I was very impressed that Jeremy opposed British bombing in Syria.
Jeremy was clear: western bombing is not the way to secure peace.
And the Russian bombing of Aleppo is just awful. We must oppose that too.
I see. I’m sorry, Janet. I afraid that you just don’t fit the profile of the modern Labour party.
