THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Freda is that dot thing you do the size of your Brain by any chance .

jimmy b - 07 Apr 2016 11:45 - 69772 of 81564

Fred's got nowhere to go at the moment ,he spends his time having a dig at Cameron , now we are all having a dig at Cameron he won't know what to do ,maybe he will start on the Queen .

Fred1new - 07 Apr 2016 12:21 - 69773 of 81564

Vicky,

No, I was looking for something small enough to represent you.

-=-==

JB,

While we look at dodgy politicians and businessmen avoiding paying tax, I think it would be sensible to see how much tax avoidance applies to the Queen and Royal family.

I think it would be a good time to have a review of their finances.

-===

But is the Queen one of your pinups, or is Theresa May more to your taste?

cynic - 07 Apr 2016 12:24 - 69774 of 81564

what a bunch of tossers some of you are .......

you are now fixated with tax AVOIDANCE and equating it to tax EVASION, when they have little if anything to do with each other, except where the avoidance is "aggressive"

however,
i don't hear any of you complaining about tax allowances for pension contributions or isas, or paying zero tax on 25% of drawdown from your pension pot, or passing money or property to your children 7 years before you die to avoid iht, or gifting, or even tax-free benefits of one kind or another .....

is that because you feel you have a RIGHT to such AVOIDANCE?

grannyboy - 07 Apr 2016 12:35 - 69775 of 81564

When the Electorial Commission decide who will represent either the remain side or the leave side, then they each get an allocation of money for electioneeing...

What has happened now from the snake oil salesman is, they're spending taxpayers money on government propaganda, simply because its looking like a LEAVE vote is a very real possibility...

Fred1new - 07 Apr 2016 12:37 - 69776 of 81564

Cynic,

Are you attempting to defend your own position on "avoidance" or "other"?

Fred1new - 07 Apr 2016 12:41 - 69777 of 81564

The remarks I made to Queen's and Royal families avoidance could be labelled special "allowances" which are granted to them.

Of course others think they are entitled to similar.

cynic - 07 Apr 2016 12:44 - 69778 of 81564

i have no need to defend anything, but as usual, you don't address the point(s) i raised

TANKER - 07 Apr 2016 12:51 - 69779 of 81564

e mail from Exeter the graduates picked to ask questions were hand picked and those that were known to be out campaigners were not allowed into the meeting
all fair play I think not .
Cameron the tax fiddling liar

TANKER - 07 Apr 2016 12:53 - 69780 of 81564

take a look at the firm who printed the leaflet and who in gov as connections to the firm

cynic - 07 Apr 2016 12:54 - 69781 of 81564

no idea, but if it's a major printer like delarue, then your pension fund may well have ...... no doubt they will hold arms and tobacco and drinks shares too

Fred1new - 07 Apr 2016 13:10 - 69782 of 81564

No, I don't hold any of your described shares.

Held Chemring once for a short time only.

==-=-=-=

The effort of answering your previous question would take more effort than I wish to expend on you.

But my "feelings" are there is need of a review of taxation in general and the reasons for such in a developed society.

But, probably you are too insular to see further than your what is of immediate advantage to yourself.

Grab and hoard comes to mind.

grannyboy - 07 Apr 2016 13:20 - 69783 of 81564

ALL this talk of tax havens is just a smoke screen compared to the really important issue of whether to remain or LEAVE the EU..

Because when you consider that 19 BILLION POUNDS goes to Brussels, and another 12.2 BILLION pounds goes in oversea's aid, someone using an offshore tax haven to 'avoid' tax then there are no comparisons...

So long as its not someone who says one thing then benefits from another.

ExecLine - 07 Apr 2016 13:32 - 69784 of 81564

As from Monday, 11 April 2016, this is what will be happening in Northampton (my local town):

Thursday 07 April 2016

A team of two private enforcers will begin issuing on-the-spot fines to litterbugs on Monday as part of the
borough council’s plan to crack down on mess – including cigarette butts.

The enforcers from private company 3GS Environmental Solutions will begin patrolling the streets from Monday – issuing £80 penalties tackle people who drop litter or leave dog mess.

The company is being contracted at no cost to the council, but it will retain all of the money it collects from fines. A spokesperson for Northampton Borough Council confirmed this week that an £80 fine can be issued for anyone caught dropping cigarette ends.

Over the past three days the team of two have been on an “induction week” it is understood, and have been visiting areas of the town to find the areas where littering is a problem. The enforcers will not have a remit to pick up fly-tipped waste or bulky items, but are due to start properly on Monday.

Councillor Rufia Ashraf (Lab, St James) has long campaigned to see her ward cleared up, and says the move is a step in the right direction.

She said; “I think it is about time we had something - but it will only work as long as this company is robust in its enforcement.”

Leader of Northampton Borough Council Councillor Mary Markham said: “Carrying out more enforcement with a visible presence over and above the service already provided by our environmental wardens should act as a deterrent and send a very clear message that we will not tolerate behaviour that turns Northampton into an unclean and untidy town.”

The company, 3GS, claims that between 75 and 80 per cent of all people fined end up paying. It is currently operating a similar model in Brighton.

Non-payment of the crime will be treated as a criminal offence. However, early repayment will reduce the fine to £50.

Obviously, the prevention of litter in any and all areas has a great deal to do with political will.

If you absolutely hate litter louts, dog poo, fly tipping, the chucking out of food waste and drink bottles/cartons by vehicle drivers at road junctions and car parks, etc, etc, then this is what you could encourage your local council to do to try to stop it.

ie. Kick off a scheme to deal with litter, along the same lines as that kicked off by
Northampton BC.

Funnily enough, as you leave M1 turn off 15 to drive towards Northampton, you will see unkempt verges , lots of litter on the verges, lots of dumped road cones, old road works signs and the like.

All of this mess is down to the Highways Agency who just don't do anything about any of these problems.

All the local Council can do, is to 'pass the message on'.

Needless to say, the Highways Agency don't get fined for their 'non-compliance' or 'non-performance' of 'what they have been contracted to do'.
