Well I can think of one off the top of my head and that is the certainty that people are going to get back what they're already lost through devaluation of the £ already, and that's before anything else has been decided on our European membership...is it certain or not that they will get their losses back?

I'm sure I can think of more in time as can other people.

Hilary , actually Mercedes do depreciate quite badly and i never understand why , look at the S class ,the CLS or the sports 2 seat models ,in fact just about all of them .
The build quality is excellent and mostly they are solid and reliable but they do dump their value hugely .

PS most of the cars in that list are junk anyway except the Jag which like Mercs do also seem to crash in value .

Is this because they like a lot of other make's of car are not of the same quality as they used to be.

I suspect the real reason for depreciation is upkeep costs.

Modern cars in general are fast becoming unfixable at a sensible price:

Full of electronics and specialised fittings that require main dealer servicing (expensive) Engine rebuilds are a thing of the past, ditto gearboxes etc.

When the mechanic needs a computer to tell him whats wrong, you know you are in trouble.
