How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

bakko - 03 Jan 2006 20:03 - 7504 of 10502

Evening and a happy new year to all,

Will be on the footy in a few moments. Not taken any positions yet but my heart will be with Man U.

Strange not to see Keane or Viera involved anymore!

Harlosh - 03 Jan 2006 20:09 - 7505 of 10502

Hi Bak,

On the match also. Not too sure what position to take. Think I'll wait and see.

And a happy new year to you too!

Bugz - 03 Jan 2006 20:13 - 7506 of 10502

Evening Gents.

On the footy, laid the draw and looking to trade out after the first goal, when it arrives hopefully. Think it could be lively.

Come on you GUNNERS!!!! :-)

Harlosh - 03 Jan 2006 20:16 - 7507 of 10502

Small lay on United

bakko - 03 Jan 2006 20:21 - 7508 of 10502

Nice save by Van der Sar

John, Your lay almost came in there!

bakko - 03 Jan 2006 20:25 - 7509 of 10502

John....Careful with your lay on ManU as odds have only drifted out by 3 ticks in the last 20mins unless Arsenal score of course.

Harlosh - 03 Jan 2006 20:30 - 7510 of 10502

Yep, I noticed Bak. A little more movement now but I expect Arsenal to score first anyway. (sorry to say)

bakko - 03 Jan 2006 20:35 - 7511 of 10502

Fully agree with you on that as Ars have been a lot more threatening.

They've already had 4-5 corners and that Henry free kick wasn't too far away!

bakko - 03 Jan 2006 20:53 - 7512 of 10502

End of a pretty dull half with few chances from both sides.

Managed to grab a couple of ticks myself on ManU

Hoping for a more exciting 2nd half.

Bugz - 03 Jan 2006 20:56 - 7513 of 10502

yeah was dull. The first 15 got me excited!!

Managed to grab a few ticks on man u in the last 10 mins but I need a goal badly!

Lets hope it gets hectic from the break....

Harlosh - 03 Jan 2006 21:02 - 7514 of 10502

Why have United dropped back to 3.5 from 3.7 over half time?

bakko - 03 Jan 2006 21:05 - 7515 of 10502

A goal from either side will hopefully ignite this match!

Just didn't seem like either of them wanted to win.

Bugz - 03 Jan 2006 21:07 - 7516 of 10502

Yeah I noticed the odds were moving loads at HT. I made three ticks on arsenal going out. Strange....

bakko - 03 Jan 2006 21:10 - 7517 of 10502

John,

Not sure (Asian money maybe?) but I find that during half time most odds tend to drift even if the team is ahead. I've even managed to take advantage of this drift on many occasions. Traders closing positions?

Harlosh - 03 Jan 2006 21:13 - 7518 of 10502

Thanks Bak. Strange though.

bakko - 03 Jan 2006 21:44 - 7519 of 10502

Just scalped 30+ ticks on the draw and now all green.

Harlosh - 03 Jan 2006 21:45 - 7520 of 10502

Bought back and greened up but used the profit to lay the draw so hoping for a goal now.

bakko - 03 Jan 2006 21:50 - 7521 of 10502

You've only got 3 mins for your goal
