ID Data - SPECULATIVE BUY
Companies: IDD
16/08/2005
The maker of plastic cards has endured a tough time since we recommended it at 2.5p last Christmas. Trading has continued to be strong, fuelled by new contracts won from GE Capital and Citibank, but funding concerns and high labour costs have hampered progress. These problems are being resolved. Expensive convertible loans, worth 3.7m, have been converted into equity at 1p a share and 4m has also been raised at the same price. This wipes out debt and give the group 1m in cash. In the year to March turnover rose 72% to 19.4m but losses were only reduced by 18% to 4.2m. However, a new factory in Poland has just opened and ID Data plans to move most production out there and consolidate higher end work in the UK at one site in Petersfield. This will halve labour costs and with interest charges removed, the group should be close to break even in the current year and make a profit in 2007. Recurring revenues are currently estimated at 11m and the group has high hopes of winning more contracts from retailers to introduce chip and pin store cards. Further out, ID Data has a strong chance of securing the contract to produce ID cards for the Government as it is already a trusted supplier to the Post Office and London Underground of similar critical cards. In addition other loss-making card makers have recently been taken over at a multiple of revenues. Speculative buy.
