I'm so sorry to hear that Mels. Totally rotten.
Blimey and I came home fed up just now, having spent hours with the police at my mother's house, which has been burgled. I blame myself, because I find it so hard to go there. Anyway, I brought the photo albums home.

Well, still no $ bearskins here yet - long yen (kicked in at 117) and short cable, as ever.
Oh and long the old loonie since Monday :)

foale - 02 Mar 2007 06:58 - 7583 of 11056

Cable has been so exciting of late.
I am now looking at the daily charts...
Still expecting a test of support at 1.9530-40 (soon)

then 1.9480 which if broken opens up 1.9250-75 area
(not holding my breath on that one though)

Mel
Sorry to hear about you family's problems. As you say, these things always seem to come together. Best wishes to you and your family.

choc - excellent entry on the USD/JPY - but the graph says NOT YET - hils will be admonishing you - naughty girl !!

Seymour Clearly - 02 Mar 2007 08:10 - 7585 of 11056

mg - you mean "computer says no"

mg - 02 Mar 2007 08:20 - 7586 of 11056

That's what I said ...... "hilary says no......"

Dons tin hat and hides under bunk

mg - 02 Mar 2007 11:08 - 7587 of 11056

Interesting to see the $ strengthening against the and Euro but weakening against the Yen. The effect of the Yen carry trade perhaps?

foale - 02 Mar 2007 11:34 - 7588 of 11056

Chocatastic... you looking for a big fall in cable...couple of supports just below here but above 1.9400

Been wondering if we will test/ break them today.

Sue 42 - 02 Mar 2007 11:45 - 7589 of 11056

Mel poor you - rotten luck.

Sorry to be dim, but waht happened about Miss Mel's job? (I haven't been reading the thread recently - with moving & building works - can anyone update?

foale - 02 Mar 2007 11:59 - 7590 of 11056

closed my short at 9482 for now...

mg - 02 Mar 2007 12:07 - 7591 of 11056

Joined chocs on a USD/YEN long from 11700.

Wish I'd been playing the bloody cable - nice picking you short guys.

Melnibone - 02 Mar 2007 13:26 - 7592 of 11056

Thanks for the thoughts, guys.

Sue, ref Miss Mel's job. Just after her final interview, the company
managed to close a deal on an acquisition they were working on.

So now there's a hiring/ firing freeze on whilst they sort out what
they're doing with workforce.
Typical, eh! :-(

So whilst she's waiting she's put three more irons in the fire, one
in the same industry, one in a sorta related high profile venture,
and one in an entirely different industry that she already has a wealth
of experience in.

Oh, and her old professor contacted her, trying to get her to take the
next step up from her degree so that she can teach it. He's that impressed
with her.

So we'll see what comes out in the wash. I'll support her, whatever she
decides.

Sue 42 - 02 Mar 2007 14:41 - 7593 of 11056

Thanks for the update Mel - hope she gets something she wants.

mg - 02 Mar 2007 17:54 - 7594 of 11056

Mel
Shame about Miss Mel's offer.

For gawd's sake try and persuade her not to get schmoozed by the academics - I know a lot of 'em and it's a different planet they inhabit - and it also offers a limited financial return. Obviously it'll be her decision but there's a lot of smoke and mirrors that they use to hook people in - and intellectual flattery is always good for the ego - if not the pocket. I nearly said intellectual masturbation - but I'm too polite to suggest such a thing - although most are guilty of it.

Plenty of time to return to the cloisters after she's made her millions (and looked after mum and dad ;))

Just my two penneth

MightyMicro - 02 Mar 2007 21:33 - 7595 of 11056

Mel: How frustrating for Miss Mel. I do wish companies wouldn't do that. It's a good rule not to waste a potential employee's time (your company's reputation may suffer) or to pass up a good recruit for reasons of short term confusion (your company's future may suffer through passing up valuable talent that you've taken time to identify). Silly of them, in my book. Mr CEO should say "stuff the recruitment freeze, she's good enough to make it to an interview with me, get her on board". Just my two cents . . .

Normal service resumed in the Calendar department courtesy of that nice Ms Kathy Lien in New York.

chocolat - 02 Mar 2007 21:54 - 7596 of 11056

Well I was a naughty girl, meggiepoos :S
Covered half early this morning and got stopped out for the rest later at 116.80 ;)
So I was naughty again when I got home.
116.50 and I'm teetering just now, as it's wrestling to stay above that pesky line. I would've said that the 2 hour chart is a good MACD crossover indicator for this instrument for entry levels - except that it obviously hasn't been since the unwinding got going. Just can't bring myself to sell the $ right now if I'm buying it elsewhere.
Hope you did alright with your naughty bit ;)

Dil - 03 Mar 2007 00:34 - 7597 of 11056

Anyone tried tossing a coin end of day , using good money management / stops and leaving the rest to the Gods ?

Not being funny but if its executed rigidly works as well as anything else I've seen.

Problem is that often I can't post my trades til hours later due to work comittments but will try and prove it over the coming months.

Great thread guys , keep up the good work.

mg - 04 Mar 2007 11:38 - 7598 of 11056

Well, computer (and hils) was right - got my bottie smacked on that JPY long - 'cos I also doubled up on it as well.

Have written out 100 times "I will always trade with the trend and stop being a total arse by trying to trade against it. Hils is a great teacher and has a luvverly taste in hair colour".

I've now got writer's cramp - and a 100 points loss :( Might be late into school tomorrow.

cynic - 04 Mar 2007 16:48 - 7599 of 11056

you guys are all much more sophisticated than this poor geriatric, but imo, $ is now looking overstrong against , probably brought about by the unwinding of various "carry positions", as seems to be today's fave phrase ..... i admit we (our company) are in a slightly different position from most here, insofar as we always have surplus $ and insufficient .... suffice it to say that we were very happy to sell $ forward into April at 1.9450.

Seymour Clearly - 04 Mar 2007 22:48 - 7600 of 11056

Well I was short USD/JPY on Friday but got stopped out on that last run up - stops too tight :-((

Waiting to see now. Interesting thought Dil, perhaps you'd care to expand :-)
Made a heck of a lot more by always going with the trend rather than looking for the bend...

hodgins - 04 Mar 2007 23:32 - 7601 of 11056

Normal service continuing on cable (touching under 94) and all yen crosses, the latter presumably continuing to negatively impact indicative US futures
