Mel
Shame about Miss Mel's offer.

For gawd's sake try and persuade her not to get schmoozed by the academics - I know a lot of 'em and it's a different planet they inhabit - and it also offers a limited financial return. Obviously it'll be her decision but there's a lot of smoke and mirrors that they use to hook people in - and intellectual flattery is always good for the ego - if not the pocket. I nearly said intellectual masturbation - but I'm too polite to suggest such a thing - although most are guilty of it.

Plenty of time to return to the cloisters after she's made her millions (and looked after mum and dad ;))

Just my two penneth

Mel: How frustrating for Miss Mel. I do wish companies wouldn't do that. It's a good rule not to waste a potential employee's time (your company's reputation may suffer) or to pass up a good recruit for reasons of short term confusion (your company's future may suffer through passing up valuable talent that you've taken time to identify). Silly of them, in my book. Mr CEO should say "stuff the recruitment freeze, she's good enough to make it to an interview with me, get her on board". Just my two cents . . .

Normal service resumed in the Calendar department courtesy of that nice Ms Kathy Lien in New York.

Well I was a naughty girl, meggiepoos :S
Covered half early this morning and got stopped out for the rest later at 116.80 ;)
So I was naughty again when I got home.
116.50 and I'm teetering just now, as it's wrestling to stay above that pesky line. I would've said that the 2 hour chart is a good MACD crossover indicator for this instrument for entry levels - except that it obviously hasn't been since the unwinding got going. Just can't bring myself to sell the $ right now if I'm buying it elsewhere.
Hope you did alright with your naughty bit ;)

Anyone tried tossing a coin end of day , using good money management / stops and leaving the rest to the Gods ?

Not being funny but if its executed rigidly works as well as anything else I've seen.

Problem is that often I can't post my trades til hours later due to work comittments but will try and prove it over the coming months.

Great thread guys , keep up the good work.

mg - 04 Mar 2007 11:38 - 7598 of 11056

Well, computer (and hils) was right - got my bottie smacked on that JPY long - 'cos I also doubled up on it as well.

Have written out 100 times "I will always trade with the trend and stop being a total arse by trying to trade against it. Hils is a great teacher and has a luvverly taste in hair colour".

I've now got writer's cramp - and a 100 points loss :( Might be late into school tomorrow.

cynic - 04 Mar 2007 16:48 - 7599 of 11056

you guys are all much more sophisticated than this poor geriatric, but imo, $ is now looking overstrong against , probably brought about by the unwinding of various "carry positions", as seems to be today's fave phrase ..... i admit we (our company) are in a slightly different position from most here, insofar as we always have surplus $ and insufficient .... suffice it to say that we were very happy to sell $ forward into April at 1.9450.

Seymour Clearly - 04 Mar 2007 22:48 - 7600 of 11056

Well I was short USD/JPY on Friday but got stopped out on that last run up - stops too tight :-((

Waiting to see now. Interesting thought Dil, perhaps you'd care to expand :-)
Made a heck of a lot more by always going with the trend rather than looking for the bend...

hodgins - 04 Mar 2007 23:32 - 7601 of 11056

Normal service continuing on cable (touching under 94) and all yen crosses, the latter presumably continuing to negatively impact indicative US futures

chocolat - 04 Mar 2007 23:35 - 7602 of 11056

It's conventionally been fairly easy to follow, SC.
Got an order in at 116, obviously hoping for another bounce :S
And still short cable.

hodgins - 04 Mar 2007 23:40 - 7603 of 11056

Have you collected? That was a big five minutes

chocolat - 05 Mar 2007 00:24 - 7604 of 11056

Great timing for my pc to crash, hodgins :S
Just taken a big chunk out of cable at 1.9281 - but I've acquired a great unwindy thingie now :S
But I still have the loonie too :)

Seymour Clearly - 05 Mar 2007 00:24 - 7605 of 11056

Yep, went short just above 116 now closed :-)

Bed.

chocolat - 05 Mar 2007 00:48 - 7606 of 11056

Ok reversed at 115.89. And that's where the stop is too.
It could well go below 114, just can't get my head around wearing more than one beanie hat at a time.

mg - 05 Mar 2007 07:40 - 7607 of 11056

Blimey - USD running amok in the sushi bar but polishing off the beef and 2 veg. We do live in interesting times.

mg - 05 Mar 2007 10:56 - 7608 of 11056

Had a look at the weekly and monthly charts for USD/JPY - anybody fancy 10100 as a reversal point - July 1993, January 2000 and January 2005. Makes a change from looking at the 10 minute and 1 hour.

Monthly and weekly MACDs have turned down recently - so, you never know.

Puts my attempts at going long into context :(

mg - 05 Mar 2007 15:43 - 7609 of 11056

Still on the sidelines but the USD/JPY is tracking the DOW like it was its twin brother.

S'pose it's all down to news and sentiment this week :)

Melnibone - 05 Mar 2007 19:11 - 7610 of 11056

:-))))))))))))))))))

Just had a call from Miss Mel.
As of next Monday she'll be 'Something in the City'.

They didn't want to lose her with all this takeover stuff going on,
so her next big adventure in life starts on Monday.

I'm almost as excited as she is.

:-))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Seymour Clearly - 05 Mar 2007 21:27 - 7611 of 11056

Congratulations Mel - that's excellent news. Better than money :-)

MightyMicro - 06 Mar 2007 00:54 - 7612 of 11056

Mel: Exactly what I hoped would happen. The man at the top made the smart decision. How refreshing, I'm impressed. I'm delighted for Miss Mel -- and them.

bakko - 06 Mar 2007 09:28 - 7613 of 11056

Mel, Wonderful news! Really pleased for both of you.
