THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

re- migration

Haven't we heard that before from the Cons, and she was in charge of the Home Office?
I suspect the year will be 2022 another Con.
Slowly I am getting more negative of her calls and the idea of getting the rich richer at the end always wins

I do not like Corbyn, but May early talk of aiming for a more equal Britain gets the thumbs down so far.
Less crap Jewellery and more action with your words (meaning )

May Pledges To Reduce Annual Net Migration To Below 100,000

Prime Minister Theresa May on Monday promised to keep her Conservative party's target of reducing Britain's annual net migration levels to below 100,000 arrivals, ahead of the expected publication of her election manifesto next week.

May said the target is necessary because of the impact that migration "has, particularly on people at the lower end of the income scale, and in terms of the pressure on public services.

"I think it is important that we continue, and we will continue, to say that we do want to bring net migration down to sustainable levels," May said at a party event in London ahead of the snap general election on June 8.

"We believe that is the tens of thousands," May said after she was asked about her policy on net migration, which totalled 270,000 annually according to the most recent government data.

"And, of course, once we leave the EU we will have the opportunity to ensure that we have control of our borders here in the UK, because we'll be able to establish our rules for people coming from the EU into the UK."

May's Conservatives are expected to win a large parliamentary majority in the election, after she asked voters to back her leadership and her plans for negotiating Britain's exit from the EU.

Recent opinion polls put the Conservatives 15-20 percentage points ahead of Labour, the largest opposition party.

TM must be nuts to make that immigration promise yet again

to all intents and purposes, it cannot stand up, not least because entry should assuredly be permitted for workers with specific skills and with a job to go to - and as specified on their visa

when/if you change job, then the new employer will be required to go through proper process to have the visa and its holder formally transferred
i think that is what happens in ksa, and quite possibly elsewhere in the world

withholding the visa holder's passport by the employer should however NOT be allowed, as that is akin to incitement to slavery

Haystack - 08 May 2017 17:09 - 76729 of 81564

We did have net migration in the tens of thousands in the 90s. Blair changed that.

cynic - 08 May 2017 17:13 - 76730 of 81564

confess that surprises me greatly, though i accept it would have been well below current levels ...... one gets the impression that we now accept not only the man and his dog, but also his extended family

ksa is pretty brutal
certainly asian workers are allowed no one but themselves
i'm not sure what the rules are with europeans

jimmy b - 08 May 2017 21:51 - 76731 of 81564

Correct haystack ....

cynic that'll do for me ,,better than the slime bag that is Macron , you just wait and see he will cause us all sorts of problems.

Haystack - 08 May 2017 23:32 - 76732 of 81564

Migration was low until 1998 specifically. The year after Blair appeared.

On Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays we have 'an additional newspaper' but we didn't get it this morning so had to ring the newsagent to complain.

He is very good with his 'service' and brought the missing item to me half an hour ago. Instead of posting it through the letterbox, he rang the bell, so we did a little chatting.

He told me

To his round of 600 customers he only sells 10 'Guardians'.
He does his 'round's cards' by hand and doesn't use a computer or software. He reckons the software alone would cost him £2000 and he simply can't afford it. I disagreed with him on this as it must just be simple 'spreadsheet stuff' and must have been written thousands of times already.
6 weeks ago the wholesaler stopped delivering to the Northampton collection point. because he likes to collect them himself, he now has to drive 15 miles to Milton Keynes to do this.
He has no savings and no prospects of being able to ever retire. He does have 'Whole Life' insurance to protect his family in the event of his death, but nothing else.
His wife works in the local Tesco but has just had to have a new knee. The operation has not gone well and she is still in pain and cannot properly do the physiotherapy adequately well enough or frequently enough. She cannot now help him and their income has dived. Her prognosis does not look good to me as neither does her future with Tesco.
Every year he loses more customers and 'the younger element' now mostly use TV, Facebook and other 'social media' for their news.
I did conclude this particular newsagent was a 'stick in the mud' and he did not want to effect any changes (eg. trade diversification) to his situation.
He is 62 yrs old and I also concluded, that although he had his own special family problems to have to deal with, his 'industry and its associated partners' must be now dying on its feet.

I wondered if it will even last another 5 years. I fear not.

What do others feel?

iturama - 09 May 2017 11:05 - 76734 of 81564

I only read the online newspapers except when I have a flight to catch. Doing the crosswords or sudokus makes the time pass. I receive a local free newspaper. Great for cleaning the windows. As for my knee... don't ask.

Laurenrose - 09 May 2017 11:54 - 76735 of 81564

corbyn speech today same old crap . under lab pensioners were treat like scum
under the cons we have had decent rises but it still very poor for those that retired pre april 2016 a pension of £119 a week .its ok if you never saved never bought your home . for those that just spent all their money on cars and hols and rented are the winners those that saved have been trashed big time .
I would tell all working class people to never save spend all of your money

Shirley Ballas, the British-born Ballroom and Latin dancer and international coach, has been confirmed as the new judge on Strictly Come Dancing.

Originally from Wallasey, Shirley is a former 'British Open to the World' Champion, European, German, United Kingdom, United States and International Latin American Champion. She retired from competitive dancing in 1996. She is now an acclaimed and respected international coach to many of the top professional and amateur dancers as well as a highly renowned sought-after adjudicator for Ballroom and Latin American competitions judging all around the world. Her nickname is 'The Queen of Latin'.

Hmmm? She seems to know what she's doing so 'Let's give here a chance' has to be the way. And I'm pleased this job's not gone to Anton du Beke, because I can't stand the bloke.

iturama - 09 May 2017 13:16 - 76737 of 81564

Comes from Wallasey, must be good.

Haystack - 09 May 2017 15:53 - 76738 of 81564

Just in from my probiotic supplier:

A headache could be an indicator that you need more magnesium, vitamin B12 and B6 – something you can get from eating pumpkin seeds, prunes, banana or fortified soy milk’.

Mineral and vitamin deficiency symptoms and their dietary saviors

Our experts have revealed seven of the most common symptoms that could point towards a vitamin or mineral deficiency and how you could utilise your diet to help prevent them.

You’re lips are cracked: This could be a sign of iron and or vitamin C deficiency and foods that could help are:
Red meat;
Red peppers;
Kale;
Tofu.

You’ve got a persistent case of dandruff: You may be lacking in biotin or vitamin B7 and or deficient in essential fatty acids. Try the following:
Fresh salmon;
Almonds;
Peanut butter;
Sunflower seeds.

Acne has been troubling you: Acne has been linked to those with a possible zinc deficiency so if you’re struggling to get rid, incorporate these foods into your diet:
Crab;
Spinach;
Cashew nuts;
Cocoa powder.

Your hair is thinning: Similarly to cracking lips this could be a mild form of iron and vitamin C deficiency. Give the following foods a go:
Lemons;
Kiwi fruit;
Strawberries;
Red kidney beans.

You’ve got increasingly bad breath: Poor oral health can actually be linked gut health as well as a possible iron deficiency. For this try:
Raisins;
Peas;
Fortified breakfast cereals;
Adzuki beans.

You’re experiencing low mood: There could be a link between a deficiency in vitamin D as well as in the B vitamins and magnesium with low mood. Try:
Quinoa;
Salmon;
Avocado;
French beans.

You suffer from regular headaches: Dietary factors could play a role in regular headaches along with a lack of magnesium as well as vitamin B12 and vitamin B6. The following foods may help:
Pumpkin seeds;
Prunes;
Banana;
Fortified soy milk.

So if Fred is getting you down a bit, there you are then, just try sucking a lemon.
