How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

why only 1 3.00 ko game in play today?

Scripophilist - 07 Jan 2006 14:46 - 7674 of 10502

I am also on Watford vs Bolton, Watford are going well at the moment, have a good cup record and Bolton are fielding a very depleted field.

Fundamentalist - 07 Jan 2006 14:47 - 7675 of 10502

"u know its not in play dont u? "

Thanks for the prompt, I changed my mind because of that and did some gardening this afternoon with the kids instead. As you say, very little in play. Probably because the coverage is on the BBC.

Scrip

saved me too - decided i couldnt be bothered to follow one match so traded out at nil and watched/traded the rugby instead.

Interesting one in that when Worcester were 4 points down in injury time then broke clear and scored what appeared the winning try. In piled the money buyers just as the ref disallowed the try for a forward pass lol

Fundamentalist - 07 Jan 2006 18:16 - 7680 of 10502

Scousers backed at 1.12 when went 1-0 up, backers now worried at 2-1 down lol

Fundamentalist - 07 Jan 2006 18:19 - 7681 of 10502

not to mention whoever laid Luton at 500 to be leading at half time lol

Fundamentalist - 07 Jan 2006 18:43 - 7682 of 10502

Liverpool miss dubious pen then up the other end Luton get one and score 3-1 lol

Fundamentalist - 07 Jan 2006 18:59 - 7683 of 10502

Now 3-3

amazing game and some huge opportunities if you were brave enough

Fundamentalist - 07 Jan 2006 19:04 - 7684 of 10502

4-3 scousers - unbelievable game

Bugz - 07 Jan 2006 19:07 - 7685 of 10502

Yeah talk about volatile odds!! Amazing!!!! Could have picked up 17.5, and 5 minutes lates laid at 1.14!!!!

Fundamentalist - 07 Jan 2006 19:13 - 7686 of 10502

Bugz

i laid Luton at 3-2 (didnt have the balls to back Liverpool lol)

Fundamentalist - 07 Jan 2006 19:25 - 7687 of 10502

5-3

alonso scored from inside his own half after the keeper had come up for a corner (his two goals must have a combined yardage of over 100 yds lol)

Scripophilist - 07 Jan 2006 20:20 - 7688 of 10502

I saw the last goal! Me and the family were sobbing over ET on ITV. I was outvoted on the footy.

Scripophilist - 07 Jan 2006 20:26 - 7689 of 10502

Just watched the highlights on BBC web site, what a brilliant game. Would have been ace to trade as well. Ah well.

schiff - 07 Jan 2006 20:27 - 7690 of 10502

Apart from the fact that this was a wonderful cup-tie and a superb endorsement that the FA Cup is the tops wherever you look, you have to feel desperately sorry for Luton who contributed so much. I just couldn't get it wrong tonight. Prior to KO I backed over 2.5g at 1.95. When it was 2-1 I backed Luton to score the next goal at 7, then a bit on Liverpool at 1.54 to cover my stake. When it was 3-2 I backed Liverpool to win at 5.3. When it was 3-4 I laid Liverpool at 1.09 to cover my stake -just in case.
I think I've finished with laying (following advice from this thread) and I just picked what I considered were value bets. With handsome odds in my favour I just needed the odd one to come up to put me in profit. In the event they all came up -but I'm wise enough to know it's not going to happen often.
I know this isn't 'trading' as you do it - but I'm comfortable with it, which is what matters.

Harlosh - 07 Jan 2006 20:38 - 7691 of 10502

Well done schiff. Can't all have been luck.

Re laying: I don't think you should give up on it. It has its place. Just avoid high lay prices. Too much worry.

schiff - 07 Jan 2006 20:43 - 7692 of 10502

I'm sure you are right harlosh. As I mentioned before laying odds-on favourites, for me, is fun. I have got more pleasure in the past laying a 2/5 loser than backing
a 5/2 winner.
