THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

''In the end, I think there is a strong likelihood we will end up agreeing to pay about £10bn to the EU, and possibly a similar or maybe 50% lower figure per year too, so as to retain access to the single market''.

This deal will be a big help to businesses like, say UK's Jaguar (and similar,----------

So what do we charge the EU to --''allow the likes of, say Germany's Mercedes cars, France with its wine and Spain with its fruit, etc, etc, from the EU to sell us stuff too.

I look at those countries which still have the union jack on their flags and wonder how we got to the point that they are treated worse than the flotsam that is deposited on our shores.

ExecLine - 12 Jul 2017 14:50 - 78456 of 81564

Exactly!

These questions don't seem to have any kind of a mutually acceptable answer, do they?

2517GEORGE - 12 Jul 2017 15:03 - 78457 of 81564

I believe the EU has signed a FREE trade agreement with Japan so why after being one of the few net contributors to the EU for decades do we even contemplate being charged?

Stan - 12 Jul 2017 15:07 - 78458 of 81564

Murray not finding it easy... mind you at this stage.

Stan - 12 Jul 2017 15:58 - 78463 of 81564

cynic - 12 Jul 2017 16:15 - 78464 of 81564

goldfinger is the only one i know, and of course he is no longer here

Stan - 12 Jul 2017 16:25 - 78465 of 81564

Nop, the poster is current and active and seemingly quite shy... have another go.

2517GEORGE - 12 Jul 2017 16:27 - 78466 of 81564

cynic I may be wrong but because of my comment re Murray it's possible Stan is referring to me.

Laurenrose - 12 Jul 2017 16:33 - 78467 of 81564

Dil - 13 Jul 2017 09:52 - 78472 of 81564

Exec - think we already have a few red lines and being part of the single union would be at issue with them.

I really can't see us getting any type of deal with them regarding the single market as no EU court involvement and no freedom of movement are two red lines that won't be crossed.

May imo made a fair offer regarding current EU nationals and the EU come back saying they want EU court to decide things regarding their citizens living here. That is totally unreasonable and won't happen.

Figures being banded about like 100 billion for us to leave are also unreasonable and besides Corbyn and a few other loonies no one in their right mind would agree to a figure that is effectively over 12 years worth of our current net payments to the EU when we have already given them almost 3 years notice of our intent to leave.

I am not in favour of paying any type of charge for a free trade deal with the EU , if they don't want to do one we can't force them but I definitely don't think we need to pay a ransom to deal freely with them.

No deal won't be the best deal but won't be the worst deal either and in the meantime we can get on with doing deals with the rest of the world.

EU farmers are going to love it when we do a deal with Oz and NZ and EU car manufactures will love us doing a deal with the US and China.

Would love to see us doing a mutually beneficial deal with the EU on trade but I can't see it happening.

ExecLine - 13 Jul 2017 10:39 - 78473 of 81564

Dil

Actually, unless the EU change their mind 'big-time' on a few things, particularly about 'freedom of movement HAS to be linked with trade to and from the EU', neither can I.

If this type of trade stops, it is definitely going to hurt both sides so very drastically.

Surely, so drastically, it can't and won't be allowed to happen?
