THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Staff at University Hospital of Wales face having to sell their homes after losing a legal fight over the unpaid parking tickets.

One nurse owes £150,000 in outstanding fines after a court ruled £128 must be paid for every unpaid ticket, plus £26,000 in court fees, it was revealed today.

The hospital has 6,000 staff but the car park has only 1,800 spaces, so many nurses have to park in spots reserved for visitors. Staff, some of whom earn just £15,100, decided they would veto payment of any fines in protest at the lack of spaces.

Bad decision or wot? I guess a lot of the nurses who made the decision were 'young and inexperienced in life' and just thought they would be able to get away with it. Particularly so, if they used 'strength in numbers'.

There might be 6000 staff but you would get nowhere near that in work at any one time. Add in the fact that many travel to work by bus or with a colleague and the 1800 spaces reserved for staff seems about right.

The nurse that couldn't get a space on over 1000 occasions looks like she's taking the piss to me and just couldn't be arsed to park where she was supposed to.

Saying that I believe parking should be free at all hospitals.

ExecLine - 17 Jul 2017 10:22 - 78510 of 81564

I agree, Dil

Land is extremely expensive and hospitals have expanded and expanded and haven't got the spare land to use just for car parking.

Perhaps, they ought to go 'up into the air' and go multi-storey. My local Northampton General have done exactly that and things are better - but you still have to pay to park and it isn't cheap.

Nevertheless, unpaid costs and fines totalling up of £150,000 for 'a nurse(?)' earning £15k pa are somewhat 'life and career changing'. She might well be advised to declare herself bankrupt, IMHO. A couple of years or so and the stigma of it will have completely disappeared too.

Dil - 17 Jul 2017 10:22 - 78511 of 81564

Edited above to read 1000 occasions not 100. Definitely taking the piss.

I spent 5 weeks visiting said hospital earlier this year and on two occasions only did I teally have to hunt for a space. On both occasions I could have much easily have parked in the areas/floors reserved for staff.

Dil - 17 Jul 2017 10:30 - 78512 of 81564

And both times were around 2pm when you would expect the most staff to be on duty due to office staff , out patient workers etc to be on duty.

That nurse couldn't find a space for the last five years when you take into account rest days and holidays !

Dil - 17 Jul 2017 10:32 - 78513 of 81564

And if she had been working there 5 years she would be on more than £15k so something doesn't add up.

Stan - 17 Jul 2017 10:34 - 78514 of 81564

Just fund this and other vital services properly instead of cutting them by stealth.

Dil - 17 Jul 2017 10:40 - 78515 of 81564

Yeah I blame the Welsh Labour government Stan :-)

No coherent policy as nearest hospital to me is in Abergavenny and parking is free.

Dil - 17 Jul 2017 10:41 - 78516 of 81564

And now I'm off to park my arse on my sun lounger. Lovely day here in Gods own country.

Stan - 17 Jul 2017 10:48 - 78517 of 81564

A "Sun" lounger in South Wales?... yeah pull the other one -):

They have a Facebook page set up at:

https://www.facebook.com/Fighting-against-unfair-parking-tickets-at-UHW-Cardiff-1660600057490089/

IMHO, despite the ruling from the judge, who would be setting a very peculiar precedent if he had ruled otherwise, this all has to be kicked into touch.

If it doesn't get kicked into touch, the consequences are just going to be utterly enormous.

Come off it Dil sunbathing in Wales !!

ExecLine - 17 Jul 2017 11:38 - 78520 of 81564

Oh dear!

Guess who has only got his notes on 'the back of a fag packet' and not even one lady in the back-up team?

Or are they all posing for a photograph just before they get started?

Yes. I'm sure that's just got to be the answer.

iturama - 17 Jul 2017 12:44 - 78521 of 81564

The back up lady will bring the tea in soon...

It is good to see the torrid party which has fragmented the UK is now fragmenting itself.

Imploding on itself after destroying as much as it could from around itself.
