How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Having some fun on the snooker at the mo - the quality of play is awful leading to some nice price swings in each frame

Scripophilist - 18 Jan 2006 19:33 - 7968 of 10502

May have a look at snooker. I probably would have priced it shorter also. Burton a 10% chance of getting a result at Old Trafford, just can't see it.

Made some money before the off and will top it up as we head into the match.

Fundamentalist - 18 Jan 2006 19:36 - 7970 of 10502

Juve game being played on a hard almost frozen pitch - ball bouncing all over the place. No position on this basis

Evening All

Agree with you Scrip in that I can't see Man U slipping up tonight but definitely no Rooney or Ronaldo.

No value in it whatsoever and may look at Serie A games instead

Scripophilist - 18 Jan 2006 19:43 - 7972 of 10502

Somebody just laid ManU for 11.5k, could be a bookie hedging. But then they would be on the back side wouldn't they?

I've managed to shove 20k through the book before the match starts. Quite an active market thanks to the odds I think.

Fundamentalist - 18 Jan 2006 19:45 - 7973 of 10502

Juve created 4 chances in first 10 mins, have backed them small

scrip - why would a bookie be hedging by laying at a higher price?

Scripophilist - 18 Jan 2006 19:47 - 7974 of 10502

I edited my last post!

bakko - 18 Jan 2006 19:47 - 7975 of 10502

Steve....What channel are you getting Juve stuff from or is it from the forums?

Fundamentalist - 18 Jan 2006 19:53 - 7976 of 10502

Bak - its on bravo (124 on sky)

Fundamentalist - 18 Jan 2006 19:54 - 7977 of 10502

juve 1-0 down - just got very lucky as my bet was next in line to be taken and didnt get filled :-)

bakko - 18 Jan 2006 19:58 - 7978 of 10502

Thanks

I never knew Bravo showed footy!

Fundamentalist - 18 Jan 2006 20:01 - 7979 of 10502

Bak

they show mainly Italian football - normally 2 or 3 games a week plus highlights shows - just be careful you dont end up watching on bravo +1 - a guy on the forum couldnt believe the price he was getting on Milan the other week, little did he know he was an hour behind and they were losing lol

bakko - 18 Jan 2006 20:01 - 7980 of 10502

Just got my big lay filled so have a free bet on ManU :-)

BTW...That earlier 11.5K lay wasn't mine.

Fundamentalist - 18 Jan 2006 20:04 - 7981 of 10502

1-1 Juve

Viera scored (still dont think he looks as good in black and white lol)

Fundamentalist - 18 Jan 2006 20:07 - 7982 of 10502

Bak

what price will united to have to drift to for you to lump on?

Scripophilist - 18 Jan 2006 20:10 - 7983 of 10502

Man U 1-0, Easiest money ever!

Fundamentalist - 18 Jan 2006 20:11 - 7984 of 10502

Just gone in for more at 1.04 - not usually my style but think the price is so wrong

bakko - 18 Jan 2006 20:11 - 7985 of 10502

Looks like no chance now as 1 up

I was about to say only if Burton score a goal as I couldn't see the ManU price drifting out to 1.5+ until late in the 2nd half
