World cup 2010, What chances for the Home sides and Ireland !. (2010)

required field - 12 Oct 2008 18:43

Thought I'd start a football blog, we might keep this going until 2010.....England doing well....did not see the match or even the goals....I'd like Michael owen back in the squad though....and I think Peter Crouch would make a very good substitute...remember against Argentina in Geneva a few years ago....with Michael Owen and some very good movements on and off the ball...they caused havoc.....did see Scotland's missed chance....that could be very costly losing those 2 points !.

Well....Crouchy got the all important goal.....what an asset he is becoming for club and country....(ManC v Spurs)...

Well done Chelsea.....now for the double !.

Zola sacked.

Atletico...a little lucky at the end...but Forlan has improved since leaving ManU.....might be going back there if he carries on scoring like that...at one time with the red devils : he used to miss everything all the time....excellent player now...hard luck Fulham...

Maybe England should get Cardiff City to teach them how to take pens before they leave for SA.

Que sera sera .... :-)

The other day, I heard that the Lib-dems whoever they are, : are talking to Torres....I bet those Liverpool fans went mad !....

required field - 17 May 2010 20:49 - 807 of 1154

Congratulations to the Blues, shame about Ballack....how many times have I seen bad tackles by players this season..loads of times....a few extra red cards would be better.....weird thing is that the final on wednesday is between 2 teams that can both win the treble....in 1999...Bayern were on a treble but lost also the german cup after losing to ManU...they will be very difficult to beat....down to penalties ?

Dil - 18 May 2010 09:23 - 808 of 1154

It's on Saturday evening rf , only found out myself yesterday.

Well done Jose and Inter....just like the old days....sit back and catch them on the break...Inter used to play like that back in the sixties.....still, they are the beat side this year : treble like Barca last year.......Blackpool up for one season only ?....possibly....

ptholden - 24 May 2010 21:07 - 814 of 1154

England very fortunate to be leading 2-1 at HT.
Two set piece goals, one of which should have been ruled out for offside.
Green having a good game, defence, especially King looks hopeless, no creativity from midfield. Crouch and Rooney having solid games, but with little service. When will Walcott fufill his potential and learn to capitalise on his pace and provide that killer pass on a regular basis? Apart from that all well in the world. Good job the Chelsea boys have yet to return, Lampard, Cole and Cole will add some much needed class.

ptholden - 24 May 2010 22:03 - 815 of 1154

Much better 2nd half performance. Gerrard much more involved and effective when moved to the centre and clearly Capello told them at HT to close down more with greater intent, which took the pressure off the defence. Great goal from Johnson, quite pleased that some of the so-called supporters were still having their prawn sandwiches and missed a cracker :)

required field - 24 May 2010 22:55 - 816 of 1154

England are good when they are getting at teams....around they're own penalty area : it's a muddle...somebody gets hold of the ball and bangs it upfield, that's not defending , that's desperate stuff.....hardly anybody can seem just to chest it down, pass it to another player and build from there without losing the ball....anyway Glen Johnson was fab....better that England side attack the other sides rather than go to sleep...if that was Brazil : they would have put four past us...must not let teams get balls across our penalty area...

required field - 28 May 2010 15:01 - 817 of 1154

Been checking the draws....and found out that there is a very strong chance that if Brazil and Holland win their groups and second rounds that they could meet in the quarters....ouch !...very, very strong possibility.....you never know but the dutch might win that one... 2 of the favourites could bump into each other.....In the group stages : Ivory Coast might just take a point off either Portugal or Brazil.....could come down to the final group game with Brazil needing to beat Portugal....or the reverse.

Dil - 31 May 2010 01:10 - 818 of 1154

Be lucky to get out of the group if today was anything to go by.

required field - 31 May 2010 10:51 - 819 of 1154

Not the starting 11....but they have got into the winning habit...that's a very good thing to pick up.
Now, if England win their first game, and that might not be easy against the USA, but I think they'll do it....then, they should come top of the group,...from there I would be very surprised if we bumped into the Germans who should win their group, so Ghana perhaps ?....We would be favourites to win that !...
So who in the quarter finals ?....France....perhaps not.....this is not the best french side put out by any means....and they have a difficult group to qualify from....they might not find any of the other teams easy..Mexico, Uruguay who they struggled to beat in 1998 and South Africa who they also met that year and they will be a lot more tricky this time around, so we might not bump into them....and I fancy England's chances against "les bleus" if they do get there.
Crikey !, a possible semi final this year ...and it might be the Dutch and not the Brazilians who are overrated in my opinion....you have to have a go at that shaky Brazilian defense....and don't let them play and I reckon that the South Americans will be on the back foot at times against Robben's boys....
So here we are in the semis and anything can happen then.....who knows ?...we might go all the way to a fantastic final this year....against one of the other lot : Spain, Italy or even Argentina who are looking pretty good now that they are in the finals but who struggled in the qualification process, but should top their group ; the good thing is that those three should knock themselves out in the build up to the final out of England's way....those last three would be incredibly difficult for our team to knock out, so avoiding them is a plus (We could bump into the Argies if they came second in their group)....so we are on the right side of the world cup draw....
Good luck to Capello and the Lads...hey !,... Guys you can do it !....and keep the yellow card count down to a minimum !.....
(and the Wags locked up for the next month)....
