Look at this

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2092831&start=105&tstart=0

It suggests that AVG is the problem.

Seymour Clearly - 25 Jul 2009 07:11 - 8296 of 11003

Thanks Haystack. That's the sort of stuff I tried to find without success. AVG has done this to me with other stuff, so I've made iTunes an exception.

This may be the dumbest query you have - but where do I find the option to allow me to fit the page width to the screen size, such that I don't have to scroll right and left to read pages

I've looked high and low throught the options, but I can't fathom.

Any one know ?

Just found a little 'PC Designer Toy'.

Easy to use and quite interesting. It assists you to make a list of component parts so you can design your own PC. Actually, it does test your knowledge a bit but it also really does make the job fairly easy.

That is apart from nailing and glueing all the bits together inside the box and then getting it up and working! Hah! :-)

Seymour Clearly - 25 Jul 2009 12:21 - 8299 of 11003

Joe, the display normally adapts to your screen,. but there are ususally some elements of a web page that can't be narrowed, hence the need to scroll, and I don't think there's anything you can do about it.

What browser are you using?

jj50 - 25 Jul 2009 22:53 - 8302 of 11003

Have just bought a new PC and it has a quirky problem. All running well except when I switch it on, the cursor is frozen. If I plug the mouse into a different USB port, it unfreezes. Doesn't matter which of the USB ports I use, it will only come to life if I switch it to another port. The problem is not the mouse though as I have tried another mouse and same problem occurs. Do you think I should take this back for a replacement or is there an obvious solution! Any help please appreciated.

Re my post 8302 - problem solved! Thanks.

ExecLine - 26 Jul 2009 09:58 - 8304 of 11003

Possible Conclusion:

A frozen mouse has got to eat so poster obviously fed the mouse some cheese. Most probably warm toasted cheese and with a glass of USB port.

LOL ExecLine! The mouse isn't called Big Al..but then it would probably need Armagnac to revive!

Welcome to "c0ck-up" time.

I inadvertently disabled my customer account on my dell laptop, and needless to say I can't now get in when I boot up. Nor will it let me in as administrator. How can I get round it or is it a case of re-installing XP?

Thanks

I'm not sure how to solve your problem.

However, if it happened to me, I'd ring my home town experts at

http://www.computerdoctors.uk.net/care/index.htm

I guess you aren't a customer of theirs (yet?) but, because they are so phenominally extremely helpful, perhaps you might well be soon.

As you can see they can give you pointers over the phone and maybe sometimes even remotely take over control of your computer.

Their service will cost you 84 for a full year. To get a 'student geek type bod' out to your home (if you even know one) could cost you 30 to 50. I think 84 is utterly brilliant value!

Optimist - 28 Jul 2009 19:13 - 8313 of 11003

witting

A damaged cable could be a problem, but a good ethernet cable is capable of speeds 2o times that of broadband so it is not often apparent.

If it is the cable, you are unlikely to be able to fix it so get a new one. One way to check the cable is to log in to the management console of your ADSL router. If that loads OK then it is more likely to be a broadband problem.

Check out this site for a utility to reset the Administrator password.

Thank you Exec & Optimist.

I've downloaded the utility and will have a go tomorrow
