here's the video on it ....

... and on the macro scene:
American retailers have revealed further evidence that US shoppers cut back their spending in shops and malls in January.

India expects its economy to grow by 8.7% in the financial year ending March, the slowest rate of expansion in three years.

Gone quiet again.

Who is going to attend.

I have cut and pasted Stan's previous information:

1. February 18th. (Monday) 1pm till when people want to go, at The Wellington, Bennetts Lane. 5 mins from New Street Station http://www.thewellingtonrealale.co.uk. They don't do food but do welcome customers to bring their own. They supply knives and forks etc. Who ever gets there first try and grab a table in a quite area of the pub and put a Shares/IC or FT on the table so it's recognisable to newcomers.

2. March 3rd. (Monday) 4.30 till again, when people want to go at The Anchor, Bradford Street , Digbeth. 10 minutes walk from New Street Station http://www.the-anchor-inn.fsnet.co.uk/. Food served all day. Ask for the former No Smoking room.

So, one Midday Meeting for those that prefer the daytime at the current favourite pub The Welly and one early evening meeting at our original Hostelry The Anchor.

If you can't make the beginning don't worry just arrive when you can as we don't use an agenda...just remembered the meeting after Christmas was going to be a meal affair, shall we scratch that until another time?

All welcome.

Hi Fred.... as far as I recall the Wellington doesn't serve food - so guess a meal is off the menu there - although I think you can bring your own food in and they will provide the culinary eating instruments. I'll probably make the Wellington 'meeting' - but as food is off the menu then it shouldn't be a 'meat-eating' as such.

Fred1new - 12 Feb 2008 16:37 - 867 of 1427

AAAAAAAH

survived87 - 12 Feb 2008 18:55 - 868 of 1427

.... but the 'Pig on the Wall Mild' at the Wellington is as nourishing as food ..... and just as medicinal (.... but I'll give Stan the credit of spotting that particular food there).

The following article confirms the food situation..... so perhaps I'll bring a durian along with me ;-) :
"You can't buy food there, they have no kitchen, but you can bring in any food you like and eat it there - they'll even give you cutlery and plates."
http://beercast.blogspot.com/2007/11/in-praise-ofthe-wellington.html

after that write-up I can visualise customers leaving the premises with plates and knives & forks stuffed in their jacket pockets ..... I presume the writer meant " they'll even loan you cutlery and plates."

Stan and Surviving, Do you know how many will be at the Wellington this Monday at 1pm?

55011 - 15 Feb 2008 17:17 - 870 of 1427

Do you know if the market will be up or down next week?

Fred1new - 15 Feb 2008 18:39 - 871 of 1427

I will take a bet it is both up and down! 8-)

55011 - 15 Feb 2008 18:55 - 872 of 1427

Each way, then...........

survived87 - 15 Feb 2008 19:17 - 873 of 1427

.... meanwhile back to the Wrexham & Shropshire Railway .... they've got their drivers now:

and ...

Confidence among American consumers slumped to the lowest level since 1992 and factory output failed to increase, indicating the damage from the housing contraction is pushing the economy toward a recession.

Stan - 17 Feb 2008 12:51 - 874 of 1427

Fred, 3 of us as far as I know.

I might be required at home (won't know until I get a phone call tonight) but prepared to say I will Definetley be there at 1pm tomorrow providing other people say that they will Definetley be there..I really do have so much on my plate at the moment and really do want people to say one way or another yes or no!

Not a dickey bird from the other board..so assume no one Is coming as usual.

..Right, who Is Definetley coming? Yes or No please?

Fred1new - 17 Feb 2008 13:42 - 875 of 1427

Unless my leg comes off, I will be there at 1pm. Look forward to seeing all and everybody.

Stan, I hope you are not putting on too much weight with that full plate of yours.

survived87 - 17 Feb 2008 15:48 - 876 of 1427

>Yes or No please?

Ja (Dutch)
Jes (Esperanto)
Da (Russian)
Chai (Thai)
Uh-uh-huh (Tamashek)
Yeeah (Sherpa)
Yes (International)

Barring being kidnapped by three scantily clad Brazilian ladies on my way there tomorrow then I'll be there ....

>Unless my leg comes off
I hope you are not planning to leave (the bar) legless then....?

55011 - 17 Feb 2008 17:12 - 877 of 1427

Not just what is on the plate, Fred, since I reckon he'll have been enjoying a full glass or few of late.

Do you think the markets would excuse our absence tomorrow?

Fred1new - 17 Feb 2008 17:54 - 878 of 1427

No. Are you holding NRK?

I can feel the pain.

Stan - 17 Feb 2008 18:09 - 879 of 1427

"Stan, I hope you are not putting on too much weight with that full plate of yours." Me put on weight? couldn't if I tried..and I have -):

"Not just what is on the plate, Fred, since I reckon he'll have been enjoying a full glass or few of late." Been Informed that I will receive Oddbin vouchers near the end of the month, so am holding off till then (just In case MAM go belly up In between) knowing my luck of late I can't rule that possibility out -):

Good o, I will see you all tomorrow, trains running on time hopefully. Lots of Bank news this week with most of It probably bad IMHO.

survived87 - 17 Feb 2008 18:54 - 880 of 1427

.... this part of 'bank' news not too bad...
"Two of the UK's largest banks will this week boost the financial sector by increasing their dividend payments to shareholders, a report says."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7249403.stm

.... but as to the rest of the week...?

... an 'old' but interesting article:
Financial crises: Lessons from history
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6958091.stm

Stan - 17 Feb 2008 19:01 - 881 of 1427

Wanted to be 100% cash this week but not the case unfortunately, still we shall see.

Just noticed the Welly website not responding.

survived87 - 17 Feb 2008 19:11 - 882 of 1427

Stan ..... good luck with the trains.

Chiltern not making any significant changes in next timetable:
http://www.chilternrailways.co.uk/uploads/publications/758.pdf

so presume the Wrexham & Shrops service timetable will remain as envisaged.

An MP is refusing to use rail services between London and the West Midlands because they are so unreliable.

Yep, Wellington website appears down .... an omen for tomorrow?

Stan - 17 Feb 2008 19:18 - 883 of 1427
