How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Draw price looking more realistic now around 17% probability but will stay "short" overnight.

I hasten to add that there is no statistical basis for my assessment but therein lies the the hook for me for trading this way. I haven't really tried football. I have mixed fortunes on the horses but I have made money out of perceived pricing errors in tennis and cricket. Oh, and I won't be betting on Olympic sports in a hurry again :-)

disagree edward, draw price still way too short, should almost be in double figures, though real price unlikely to occur till englands second innings gets under way (unless we bowl them out in a day in their first innings)

Thanks Steve, I certainly respect your views.

Just looking for some value in Federer/Ghareeb UAE Tennis

Fundamentalist - 01 Mar 2006 20:11 - 9011 of 10502

No probs Edward, i just cant find a feasible scenario which makes the draw likely with England not batting for more than 4 sessions in the 1st innings

as for the footie, its a friendly so have laid England at 1.52 for small stakes

Fundamentalist - 01 Mar 2006 20:16 - 9012 of 10502

Out at 1.58, Uruguay look very naive at the back

Fundamentalist - 01 Mar 2006 20:18 - 9013 of 10502

there again so do England lol

Fundamentalist - 01 Mar 2006 20:33 - 9014 of 10502

damn, should have let it run

Scripophilist - 01 Mar 2006 20:49 - 9015 of 10502

Nothing like a moral boosting victory before the world cup is there?

Scripophilist - 01 Mar 2006 20:50 - 9016 of 10502

Just watching this evening.

Fundamentalist - 01 Mar 2006 20:52 - 9017 of 10502

We really are shocking. How people think we have a chance of winning the world cup is beyond me. With the exception of Terry, i cant see another English player the big countries would want in their sides

Beckham really should have walked for that - thats a horror tackle!!!

Fundamentalist - 01 Mar 2006 21:12 - 9018 of 10502

4 Tottenham players on the park for spurs in the second half - just need defoe to make 5 - just about sums it up lol

Scripophilist - 01 Mar 2006 21:40 - 9019 of 10502

8-1 to win the world cup, rofl!

Scripophilist - 01 Mar 2006 21:43 - 9020 of 10502

Looks like Crouch is going to Germany!

I actually think regardless of skill we need somebody like him to throw in when things are not working.

Fundamentalist - 01 Mar 2006 21:44 - 9021 of 10502

Might as well play him from the start then scrip lol

time for bed for me - on funny hours with the cricket starting at 4.30am :-(

Morning all

super innings from Colly and Harmy this morning have made the double digits on England shrink (as has the draw)

have been offloading some of my draw and backing England, will be interesting to see if we can get a breakthrough or two with the new ball (were going to need to)

bakko - 02 Mar 2006 08:04 - 9023 of 10502

Morning Steve

Just switched on to see that Colly with the support from the tailenders have played a blinder of an innings to bring it to a very respectable 393.

Layed off my Eng position at 7.0 and will wait to see what Ind does before getting in again.

Fundamentalist - 02 Mar 2006 08:07 - 9024 of 10502

Morning bak

new ball is key

tail enders supported well and Colly played fantastically, made me shuffle my position around a lot this am

bakko - 02 Mar 2006 08:10 - 9025 of 10502

Out!

Getting out at 7.0 looking 10 mins too premature!

Fundamentalist - 02 Mar 2006 08:20 - 9026 of 10502

Happy days, finally KP has caught one.

Getting a bit hectic - 2 of my shares had final results this am - have greened my position for now though greener on results than draw, need to keep an eye on the markets for a bit though still got the cricket on :-)

Fundamentalist - 02 Mar 2006 09:22 - 9027 of 10502

Have started laying the draw again at below 3. Some help for the bowlers and a very promising start for Panesar (hed have 2 wickets if the umps were consistent!!!). Cant see how the draw price can go much lower before England bat again, though plenty of upside if wickets fall. Likelt to back it back on the fall of a wicket and then look to re-enter when it falls
