Surely that only allows you (via a HDMI splitter) to view multiple sources on one screen? Not multiple screens from one source?

Richgit69 - 17 May 2011 13:14 - 9423 of 11003

HarryCat, I think I mean If I got a big enough TV/Monitor I could get rid of 1 or all of them and just use 1 if its the same size as my 3x24" monitors I've got now

HARRYCAT - 17 May 2011 13:36 - 9424 of 11003

Sounds like VNC (virtual network computing). VNC thumbnail viewer a possibility. Regret out of my league as have never used it. Hopefully someone else can assist.
On the subject of screens with HDMI connections, looks like 40" is about the biggest. For some reason anything above that seems to be pretty rare.

jonuk76 - 17 May 2011 22:05 - 9425 of 11003

You can do it but the resolutions on the big screens TV's are not that much higher (if any) than a current 24" monitor. Usually they are 1920 x 1080 resolution. Here's an example. So basically a 42" TV/monitor won't give the same amount of screen "real estate" as three 24" monitors. It'll just show the same as one of your current screens but bigger.

Richgit69 - 18 May 2011 00:10 - 9426 of 11003

HarryCat, Jonuk76 thank you both for the advice, looks like i'll stick with my 3 monitors and add 3 more later

Richgit69 - 22 May 2011 14:05 - 9427 of 11003

Windows 7

recently upgraded pc and now using windows 7, booted up last nite and found that my programs especially IE9 are see thru, and the IE tabs pop up along the bottome as little pictures on the taskbar, How do i go back to the original settings

jonuk76 - 24 May 2011 11:39 - 9428 of 11003

Yes that's how it is by default. Try this - right click desktop, choose 'Personalize'. Scroll down to 'Basic and High Contrast Themes' and change the theme to Windows 7 Basic or Windows Classic, which will turn off the 'Aero' features like the transparent windows.

Richgit69 - 24 May 2011 17:13 - 9429 of 11003

Jonuk76, simple when you know how, thanks

Richgit69 - 26 May 2011 14:54 - 9430 of 11003

can anyone confirm if this is right

I installed a dedicated graphics for 3 monitors which are woking fine on it now

But if the motherboard has a intergrated graphics card with DVI, VGA adaptors installed and I've also put in any old PCI graphics card again with two more adaptors, I can only use the new dedicated graphics card i've just installed I thought I be able to at least add another 2 or even 4 monitors at a later date as I've got 4 adaptors free still

Seymour Clearly - 26 May 2011 15:15 - 9431 of 11003

I think you'll find that the graphics card you installed overrides the integrated graphics chip on the motherboard. I'd expect that any extra graphics cards installed in other slots should allow extra monitors to be attached.

Incidentally, which 3 monitor graphics card did you install? I'm thinking of doing likewise on my Win7 64 bit machine. Nice powerful machine, but graphics are a let down at the moment.

ExecLine - 26 May 2011 15:30 - 9432 of 11003

As you are no doubt probably aware, Win7-64 bit usually presents a few compatibility issues.

Have a look at

THIS (1)

and

THIS (2)

Seymour Clearly - 26 May 2011 15:57 - 9433 of 11003

Cheers Exec. I really only need a twin output - some of those cards cost almost as much as my PC! (Well, not really - but I managed to get a 'bin end' PC with terrific spec for not many roubles).

Richgit69 - 26 May 2011 16:18 - 9434 of 11003

Seymour Clearly, I ended up getting MSI 6850 cyclone, with a new 650w PSU and a display port adaptor

skinny - 26 May 2011 16:23 - 9435 of 11003

Rich - is that a vacuum cleaner? :-)

Richgit69 - 26 May 2011 16:38 - 9436 of 11003

skinny, it does have a massive fan on it ;-)

Seymour Clearly - 26 May 2011 16:41 - 9437 of 11003

Bet it sucks the dust up anyway. Looks like a beast!

ExecLine - 26 May 2011 17:28 - 9438 of 11003

Hmmm? After reading a mention of it in your '9431' I thought you wanted a 3-monitor facility.

I'm using an eVGA GeForce GTS 450 FPB Graphics adapter - 1 GB - GDDR5 SDRAM to run two Dell 2209WAB Ultrasharp 22" Monitors on my own Windows 7-64bit machine.

The connection choices available were either VGA or DVI and as you can see from the spec' the resolutions obtainable from this card were very high and so the resultant monitor images are brilliant.

ExecLine - 26 May 2011 17:37 - 9439 of 11003

If you happen to go that route, then to get the monitor's own USBs to work you might need to read:

http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/2209WA/en/ug/setup.htm

Seymour Clearly - 26 May 2011 17:52 - 9440 of 11003

Cheer Exec - I like a personal rec, so will go down that route. Thanks for the info. Loads of machine USBs, none on the monitors but thanks for the hint.

ExecLine - 26 May 2011 18:23 - 9441 of 11003

I'm needing a bit of assistance myself.

I have an HP Photosmart Premium 309a 'All in one' printer (it also photocopies, scans to PDF and I persistently get 'fed up' by being on the receiving end of

1. HP's clever marketing tehnology, which has 'time chips' set into the cartridges.
2. HP's 'financially beneficial to HP but not to me' default, which makes the printer print type in 'Photoblack' unless you go into the printer menu every time and make it print type in regular 'Black. Of course every picture you print also uses Photoblack and so this runs out much quicker than regular 'Black'. Very clever! Then you find out you need to change the Photoblack cartridge more frequently and it makes your printing costs much much more expensive.
3. The best deal I can get for HP ink is at my local Staples store. I keep printing e-mails from them saying
'50% off your 2nd cartridge if you buy two the same'
'10 off if you spend more than 50'
Then I go down to the store and find out these deals have timed out!
It's now 20% off your second cartridge!
And the cartridge usage dates are short lived too!
Aaargh!!

Bored? Well, so am I!

The bottom line?

I'm wondering if anyone out there is using an HP printer and 'pirated ink'?

If so, can you recommend an online supplier to me so that can get out of this HP and Staples marketing stuff, which is nothing short of a con job?
