PC & MAC CLINIC - On line problem solving. (CPU)

ExecLine - Thanks for the input, however, on my old (sony) lcd I took the front glass off and the little beggars were behind whatever the transparent covering of the lcd screen was. Of the 4 three died in situ and the other crept away somewhere. Never could see any means of going deeper.

Yesterdays visitor (touch wood) seems to have crawled away too. I was somewhat peeved because my new system is an Acer all-in-one pc, touchscreen and all the bells & whistles. I would be very upset if I had a bunch of commas permantly on view. Don't fancy trying to take this machine to bits at all.

what on earth is a thrip?

jeffmack - 28 Jun 2011 10:17 - 9531 of 11003

Thrips are commonly known as Thunder Flies. They are the tiny, tiny flies that you sometimes see in houses trapped behind picture frames

Socrates - 28 Jun 2011 10:19 - 9532 of 11003

A thrip is a very small fly type insect, about the size of an 8 pt comma. Try google.

ExecLine - 28 Jun 2011 10:24 - 9533 of 11003

Do a 'thrips wiki' search on Google.

Balerboy - 28 Jun 2011 10:41 - 9534 of 11003

Thunder bugs....when they get in your underpants they cause all sorts of problems.....

The Other Kevin - 28 Jun 2011 11:17 - 9535 of 11003

...and munching havoc in the greenhouse.

skinny - 29 Jun 2011 07:26 - 9536 of 11003

I keep getting a Java error - inbedded in the report/dump is the following :-

If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit:
# The crash happened outside the Java Virtual Machine in native code.
# See problematic frame for where to report the bug.

Question - is it worth submitting a bug report?

Sequestor - 29 Jun 2011 07:51 - 9537 of 11003

Ah re. thrips we always call them ``harvest bugs`

Balerboy - 29 Jun 2011 07:58 - 9538 of 11003

Skinny, thunder bugs in the system....cure....spray liberally with fly killer!!

jeffmack - 29 Jun 2011 08:10 - 9539 of 11003

I find that if you dip the screen in a bucket of water this kills them. But be sure to keep the screen powered up.

Sequestor - 29 Jun 2011 08:30 - 9540 of 11003

they do bite actually, nasty wee nip ( sorry if that sounds racist against our Asian friends)

Lots of interesting info' and articles to download at the following site.

Here's one for instance on buying a laptop:

http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/download-laptop-buying-guide-2011/

When you get there, for more Guides just click on the 'Guides' Tab at the top of the page.

Skinny - Are you still getting the Java error messages? Do you use Sharescope?

skinny - 01 Jul 2011 08:27 - 9543 of 11003

Kevin - yes and no. Its Java related and I'm getting it whether I load my monitors (ADVFN) in IE or CHROME. I'll have to explore further at the weekend. Unfortunatley it will probably be beyond me, so may have to call in the calvery.

The Other Kevin - 01 Jul 2011 08:39 - 9544 of 11003

Skinny - The notes continue to litter my desktop. I think it's connected with MAM stockwatch streaming. There also seems to be a conflict between S/scope and Stockwatch when S/scope first loads. It's annoying but doesn't seem to be a problem. I sent Java a bug report and they replied saying it was a new bug. But it looked suspiciously likle a computer-generated message.

skinny - 01 Jul 2011 09:01 - 9545 of 11003

Hmmm - ok thanks Kevin.

iiwarm - 01 Jul 2011 13:09 - 9546 of 11003

Kev/Skinny
I'm still getting those Java files on desktop. don't use s/scope and only get it when MAM stockwatch is on

The Other Kevin - 01 Jul 2011 13:13 - 9547 of 11003

Beginning to look as though Stockwatch is the culprit.

skinny - 01 Jul 2011 13:21 - 9548 of 11003

I don't use either, so I'm guessing its Java?
