PC & MAC CLINIC - On line problem solving. (CPU)

Crocodile - 16 Dec 2002 03:59

Bobcolby - 23 Jul 2011 19:25 - 9585 of 11003

I cant send emails from windows mail on one PC on my home network.

Error number 0x800CCC0B. windows has detected an IP address conflict!

I have checked my account settings several times and it is the virgin address that is the problem. Sky account is fine, internet connection is excellent.

Browsing on internet tells me to set all my network to auto detect setting which I have done, but problem still exists.

Virgin broadband helpline has been no help at all. Quite the opposite in fact. One of them told me to take my PC along to PC/Computer world and get it repaired, another said he would escalate to level2 for assistance and they demanded 10pm before they would even attempt to fix the problem. I have no intention of taking up either option for obvious reasons.

Any suggestions?

BobC, you may have checked the email address and pass words but believe me it's so simple have a minute mismatch that won't let it work. Also I understand Windows Live mail is easier to set up and stable. Windows mail has been dropped in favour of live mail.

Also is your smtp set to virgin and not sky??

Balerboy - 25 Jul 2011 08:53 - 9592 of 11003

As a coinsidence, last night (sunday) two comps, in this house lost the ability to receive email from Tiscali through our outlook express accounts. error box saying details don't match, eg password/login. Resetting these on the web mail and on outlook made no difference. This morning I reset all my account settings for the tiscali email (my old freeserve mail still worked ok) There wasn't anything missed type or wrong but just re-typing the smtp, mail address, password, and applying + ok seems to have put me right.
Regards BB.

Bobcolby - 26 Jul 2011 09:17 - 9598 of 11003

BB

Thanks for that, its my wife's PC but will give livemail a try. My setup details have all been confirmed. (Often)

Bobcolby - 26 Jul 2011 19:12 - 9599 of 11003

I can now send emails with no problem on virgin account and I have done absolutely nothing to the PC since Saturday. The problem must have been at Virgins end.

I give up

Bolshi - 28 Jul 2011 10:34 - 9600 of 11003

ExecLine.
I tried that GodMode that you kindly posted a while ago.
Basically I can't get it to work. I copied & pasted your code & checked it with the video. The icon doesn't change. It's still a folder named as per the code. When I click on it, I just get the message that the folder is empty. Any ideas please?
I'm running W7 64 bit.
Cheers
Edit: Strange - when I pasted the full code, for this message, the numbers in { } disappeared.
GodMode.
2nd edit - It's done it again as per above.

Bolshi
I had the same problem as you and if memory serves solved it by creating a folder in C: drive in windows explorer then using suggested code.

Bolshi - 28 Jul 2011 11:28 - 9602 of 11003

iiwarm.
Thanks for that, but it was still the same.
Cured it by typing in the code instead of copy & paste.
Sorted :-)

ExecLine - 28 Jul 2011 11:34 - 9603 of 11003

Sorry to hear that, Bolshi.

Once you've created the folder then all you have to do is 'double click' on it to open it. And there, right before your very eyes, all the different settings you can mess about with, will appear.

For starters, GodMode is not really a mode. It's merely a folder packed with shortcuts to just about every settings change and administrative function in Windows 7. Everything you'll find in the Action Center, Backup and Restore, Autorun, Desktop Gadgets, Devices and Printers -- it's all there. All dumped in one central location for easy access.

Once again, here are the very simple magic instructions, as provided by the guys at Windows 7 Themes:

1. Create a new folder anywhere (you could use drive D:\ - but perhaps drive C:\ is best)

2. Rename the folder by removing 'New Folder' and pasting in the following text:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

That's it! You've now got your new, somewhat handy folder.

NB. By the way, I notice that if I try to use MoneyAM's 'Edit' facility with this post, then this bit of text alters itself to saying simply "GodMode." and all the rest of it just disappears. I have to start again and post the full piece of text back in again in its full original form to get it to end up reading correctly in the post. I wonder if something like this phenomena, is what you might be getting yourself?

Anyhow, when finished on your machine and done correctly, you should just see a folder in the Computer section, thast isn't coloured yellow like all the rest, but 'looking like a little blue monitor thingy on a stand'. Once you get this, then just 'double click' on it to open the folder.

Exec.
It is a pretty amazing piece of gizmo. That'll keep me amused for hours while waiting for all my share prices to recover :-(
See my above post about copy & paste though. I had to do it by hand (ooer missus!!)
Strange how the code dissappears in editing Moneyam posts ain't it?
Ta v much
