Ever heard of the word 'please'?

And also

the other two words 'thank you'?

I've just had an email from the people who wrote my FTP upload software and they are promoting this:-

http://www.tappin.com/

Has anyone tried it? I can see the dangers of losing a cellphone that has access to one's home PC but presumably they've thought of that one.

Anyone that has a problem with Java not working or download part fail and lost files or registry key not found. Use this free site, fixed my prob in seconds and allowed me to install java properly.

Look through forum pages for your needs here.

I'm looking for a cheap option for a secondary machine capable of supporting 2 monitors.

Any views on buying something like a refurbished DELL OPTIPLEX 745 for £100 and installing something like a Radeon 6450 - I realise its windows xp.

Seymour Clearly - 24 Feb 2012 10:19 - 9799 of 11003

Probably won't support a full height card - I have a similar s/h machine and the internals are very "compact". In fact, I would say there is very little room for any extra cards. I'll try and have a look in mine when I get home at lunchtime - if I don't reply it will be Monday evening before I can respond as I'm away for the w/e.

skinny - 24 Feb 2012 10:26 - 9800 of 11003

Cheers Seymour - absolutely no rush - I've been sitting on this for months! I thought I could use a "half height" card (if that's the right description)?

Seymour Clearly - 24 Feb 2012 10:33 - 9801 of 11003

Yep, I suspect you could use a half height card.

jonuk76 - 24 Feb 2012 10:58 - 9802 of 11003

Here's the specs - http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/optix/en/opti_745techspecs.pdf

From the specs, the "desktop" and "small form factor" cases allow a half height PCI-E graphics card. The "ultra small form factor" case does not allow any cards to be fitted. The one on Amazon looks like the desktop case.

So worth doing as a cheap(ish) backup?

Mega Bucks - 24 Feb 2012 11:05 - 9804 of 11003

skinny,a 1st class and very reliable backup machine.

jonuk76 - 24 Feb 2012 11:32 - 9805 of 11003

I don't see why not. Personally, I'd prefer one with a Core 2 Duo rather than a Pentium D. It's a later processor that uses less power, generates less heat, and is faster (despite the lower clock speeds). But that's just me being fussy, I expect it would be fine :)

skinny - 24 Feb 2012 12:16 - 9806 of 11003

That's the problem Jon - I always start (with anything) looking at the sensible/minimum to fulfil the requirement and end up buying anything but!

jonuk76 - 24 Feb 2012 15:39 - 9807 of 11003

You're not alone there, I'm exactly the same!

hodgins - 26 Feb 2012 23:46 - 9808 of 11003

Has anyone used an Eee keyboard that Asus computers use? I've got an issue that must have an answer but for the life of me can't sort it
