MB,

You might like to consider taking out a subscription with these boys.

I use their outgoing smtp address on:-

My desk PC connnected to the internet via BE Unlimited
My wife's laptop.
My Samsung Android S2 phone with an o2 sim card at home and roaming
The same setting when the S2 is picking up wifi in my home or elsewhere
My Android (wifi) only Toshiba tablet.

I have two email addresses @compuserve.com (now part of AOL) and several email addresses hosted at my photographic web server.

Years ago I recommended AuthSmtp to friends travelling with laptops who were constantly baffled by the need to change their outgoing smtp settings when they moved from hotel to hotel. With this system you never change anything.

It seems to work with all the mail systems. I have nPOP, Virtual Access, Thunderbird and on my Androids I have K-9.

I am sure there will be a free trial MB. Give it a go.

TP

In the days when outlook express, a dedicated email prog loaded on a pc would work, all email address's could be loaded on and downloaded. But as usual something useful won't work on modern systems. Glad to say i still run xp on laptop and can still use outlook express.,.

Thanks gents for all your advice and help etc but even after being onto the AOL help desk still has notsorted the problem out.I am giving it a break today but will attempt another long session tomorrow.

This what its setup as per Aol help desk from down town Delhi but the port settings can be differant from various forums so i have tried a fair few options. Its only the outgoing part of it that does not work so it so near yet so far away.

ncoming server.
imap.aol.com
port
143
security type nil

this accepts emails exactly as they should be.

Out going server

smtp.aol.com
port
587
security type
none

When you click on say a reply email or even start a new one,it attempts to send the email but after trying it comes up with the message 'connection error'.

With regard to my problem mentioned last week, with a Trojan, here is a link I found useful. H

MB,

I see that AuthSMTP give you a money back guarantee

If you are going to allocate time for a 'long session' tomorrow why don't you see if this works?

My experience of AOL, who took over Compuserve, is not glowing. I only stay with them as I have two nice email addresses that I am reluctant to abandon. Last week they moved two important documents from my inbox to spam during Wednesday night. They then blocked access to my 'settings' due to a network failure. Eventually I got into my system at AOL and recovered the documents, but they don't make it easy.

AuthSMTP have a logging system which you can access and it allows you to see where, if anywhere, your messages are going and whether they are being bounced.

Needless to say I am not 'associated' with them - simply enthusiastic (a rare quality in these days of recession.....)

Have you installed the new Android Ice Cream Sandwich update as you will need to set up the email again? It is out on Orange for Galxy S2 today.

ThePublisher - 21 Apr 2012 23:02 - 9849 of 11003

H.

I upgraded my S2 on o2 to ICS about three weeks ago and did not have to set up my email again. Mind you I am using k-9 and not the standard one.

All that changed was my Home page.

Hi

Can anyone help with my problem, thanks in advance ;-)

1) got a WD passport portable 1tb USB 3.0/2.0 Harddrive

2) formatted it using guiformat to Fat32 so that I could use it on TV thru DVD's USB 2.0 connection slot

3) Transfered files to harddrive seemed OK on my computer, gave WD HD to someone else to try on their computer and DVD USB 2.0 player it took nearly a day trying to read the WD HD, Why is this happening???

4) got WD HD back to see whats wrong and now it won't even find it on my computer or DVD player's USB 2.0 connection slot etc

5) can it be fixed to find the WD HD and files so I can get it working again, if not how do I format it to FAT32 if the WD HD can't be found in the first place on my computer

6) I've tried the WD website site for advice and its out of warrenty so nothing there to help me either

HARRYCAT - 01 May 2012 08:09 - 9851 of 11003

I think the answer to question 3 in your list is that the default file system is now NTFS, not FAT32, though the old 1.44MB floppy discs still use FAT32. NTFS is a much faster file system for a number of reasons and I imagine that any Windows based software is slowed down reading FAT32. I can't answer the other questions, but I assume you chose FAT32 for a reason?

Balerboy - 01 May 2012 08:10 - 9852 of 11003

Is it possible the HD needed formatting to NTFS?

Balerboy - 01 May 2012 08:12 - 9853 of 11003

sorry harry you got there before me.,.

Balerboy - 01 May 2012 08:16 - 9854 of 11003

If a ntfs comp, won't read the hd now it's in fat32 may be a solution is to connect it to an old comp with win 98 to 2000 running on it and format disc again. but whether an old comp can re-format to ntfs i don't know.

Richgit69 - 01 May 2012 08:39 - 9855 of 11003

Harrycat, Balerboy thanks

even thou the the WDHD start with NTFS you can format them into Fat32, ive done this before numours times got 5 WDHD sitting here now formated using Fat32 and they work both on my Windows 7 OS and DVD players using the USB 2.0 slot

Balerboy - 01 May 2012 08:48 - 9856 of 11003

must be fault with laser reader/disc unfortunately. Is the disc removable? maybe try in one of the other players.

Balerboy - 01 May 2012 08:54 - 9857 of 11003

Hi , i had the same problem , and i lost all my files. The problem is that the WD Hard drive does not have a Drive Letter E.g A: B: C: (Drives, like when you see your system files in ) You set you WD hard Drive a Drive Letter you Conect you WD hard drive , then search Disk management in the start bar.You then should see a window open with Disk 0-6 (or more/Less), You should see your WD Hard drive neer the bottom (If you cant find it Dissconnect your hard drive and reconnect it to see which one it is )(make sure the window is big) Right click on the WD hard drive and click "Change Drive Letter adn paths" .A smal box should come up with "Add:" Change: and "Remove" , click the Add . Then another box will come up , there will be 2 options 1: Assign the following drive Letters (Choose this one), and then if you want choose a letter that you wish. Click ok , and now it should come up in "My computer".

Hi all. I have a WD 1tb portable elements and all of a sudden it stopped working. I plugged it into my computer and nothing shows up. It makes the connected sound and the light on the hdd is steady and doesnt flicker. I ran the lifeguard disgnostics on it and the quick scan came up clean. the extended scan couldn't run because of "Too many bad sectors". How can I recover my data. It is very important to me and I would very much like to have it back.

data recovery software won't help you unless the drive is still spinning. if you have a smartware drive, then you won't be able to take the drive out of the case, because the internal drive is hardware encrypted. if the drive is spinning, there is a chance that the bridge board in the case died, rather than the drive. if so, you could spend the money to get another drive like the one you have and swap out the internal drives. however, do understand that in both cases you will void the warranties on both drives.
