ASOS have dropped quite significantly in the past week for no particular reason and I view this as the perfect opportunity to invest as I can see them bouncing right back up to the 5.50p mark in the next 2-3 weeks. STRONG BUY!!

Shares today: "Our best share tip has gone off boil. Look out for Xmas trading statment. Sell if falls below 70p." So what are expectations for trading statement: market will be expecting 80% uplift from statement in late November; may just get to 85%; key will actually be comments on prospects. May take something like TV channel announcement to get share going again. On fundamentals, probably still cheap.

You said it first - I wonder if Shares just read our posts! I recall you were referring to short-term trading and not your long-term holding. I am adopting the same policy with short-term via CFDs. Resistance level tested at 83.5p earlier today. The Board will do well to hold attention - important for both wealth and health!

ASOS CHALLENGE PORTFOLIO
Three questions to ask you. First, has the ASC sp run out of steam? Second, are you interested in the shares in this portfolio or have your investment attentions turned elsewhere? Third, is it worth continuing with this portfolio, starting another one with our current interests, or neither (or both!).

Not much to comment on. ASC trading statement is next Friday but no sign of a bull run. Continues to trade in a triangle and getting close to the point where it has to break one way or the other. Revenue for 6 months expected to be up 80% to 85%; not difficult because there was an 81% figure late November. To break N. probably requires some other significant news.
SEO is testing a resistance level. I've personally taken a decent stake this week on realisation of the impact of royalties on future revenues. PET and SEY have made some ground this week. PET's progress based on discussion of Jordan deal and realisation that it is not dependent on just the current bids. That's in contrast with PCI, subject of a 'brutally honest' assessment. SEY are the safest player, no doubt! BNH and CCN haven't even had a post, suggesting the former will share the latter's decline.
I made some suggestions during the week about another contest. However, I have the feeling that the attention of most participants in the first challenge is elsewhere - that's not a criticism, only the reality of an investor's future focus; one even discounts the success story when its in the bag!

eric it seems clear that lack of interest in another portfolio due to no posts since your last post on friday, this might be due to 8 stocks losing money only 3 in profit.

Thanks for the calculations Eric. Let's have another go on the portfolio.....but with a new selection, where appropriate. I'll see what I can come up with and do my best to chose one that moves in the right direction this time!

Well done! You managed the 1000th post! Suggest we need, say, 8 in favour to tackle another portfolio. While I lost money through the first one (to date) I have learnt a lot and it has made me get my trading act more in order.

What do you think as resident guru? Re ASC, is their significance that the current triangle pattern on ASC's chart is pointing downwards, in contrast with that in October? Could this mean that there is a greater possibility that the break-out is S? My other point/query is that it seems to me that the direction of break-out is primarily dependent on whether the trading statement on Friday exceeds expectations or not.

Eric, I have absolutely no doubt bnh will be higher than 1.50 in the next coming months.. if you go on advfn, bnh is talked about every day... its just a shame I can't bring more followers on to the board.
As for other shares.... look at tnd tandem group... they are good, bought 50k on thurs at 20, not selling for less than 32

Eric:
Firstly, I support the new Portfolio selection and will post my selections this week. Perhaps we should start a new thread on it though as some people were not best pleased that we used this thread to run the last one! What does everyone think?
Secondly, Re:ASOS IMO everything hinges on this weeks statement. As I have said before it needs to be very good to support the high and prospective PE ratio. Still having said that there are lots of good omens about pre-Xmas online shopping having being good this year, so hopefully we will all be delighted! As to chart, my reading is that it is fairly neutral, (RSI at 50, MACD at 0, but longer term MA's turning down) but will break out one way or another after results.

Express comment this morning re rise on expectation of bumper Xmas trading results. These are almost guaranteed given the hitwise figures showing hits up over 100% from last year. Even if the 9-month trading is not up that much from expectation, the Christmas season figures should draw a lot of comment, particularly in contrast to the High Street traders like Next and Peacocks. Will be up early on Friday morning!

2ND ASOS CHALLENGE
Seems to be support for this - proposals as follows:
1.Each participant has 20K which can go into 1,2,3 or 4 shares in units of 5K.
2.ASC has 20K and is team yardstick, not in individual portfolios.
3.Duplication between entrants OK with no upper limit for total for one share.
4.Start weekend of 21st Jan. Buy price half way between closing offer and mid.
5.Latest time of entry to be 8 pm on Sunday, 23rd Jan.
6.Challenge to close Friday, 1st July.
7.Entrants can switch up to a total of 10K; av. of Friday close bid and mid.
8.Progress reports to rank shares by performance but also participants (initial only to protect from the ridicule of outsiders!).
Participants to date: AdieH(A); EWR(E); johngtudor(J); Sandrew(S); Seadog(Sd). legend and WOODIE also? I'll e-mail participants in first challenge this evening (after eight!) Please suggest any mods to rules. john to comment on charts on occasional basis; perhaps also on request - ok? Additional challenge on backburner but I'll report any significant movements.

I am up for that... its a shame you didn't come to me 3 wks ago.. when I bought POL and DA. They have ticked up nicely.
The legend has plenty of tricks up his sleeve, be warned competitors!!! LOL
Do you think it would be wise to start a new thread for the competition Eric??
Also, do you have my e-mail address eric??

You certainly seem to be able to pick the winners so perhaps we should give you a handicap! We'll see about the new thread. Felt last time it was OK: only one chap seemed to complain; others said it kept interest going in the ASC thread; ASC is the yardstick. We should see what others think. Haven't got your e-mail: perhaps I can have early warning of the winners, please!

e-mail gone to bosley and ptholden. Other participants were willfagg, capa, dawsinho and Kivver. I've seen them around the BBs, not literally, so will see if I can locate them.
Given the Friday close for pricing, OK to submit shares before or after close on Friday. Wonder where ASC will be: probably up or down but not half way up!
