rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.
for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ
for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

having written the above, about 30 mins later i thought i had misread
however, on returning from dinner - it's 22:45 here - i see that all has collapsed once more
any specific reason?

not trying to be clever from afar ...... it's difficult enough when in uk, though i have a small running short in both ftse and dow
i see an air egypt plane has just been blown up (probably) in egyptian airspace
that won't do much for the markets nor TCG and the like in particular

avery jolly sight today in a sea of red :-)
DAX
closing in on a level at which to short = <9,800
shame i didn't have the balls to extend the shorts i already hold in ftse and dow, but too dangerous when so far away
GOLD
surprised that is so weak, but i dare say there's good reason - eg imminent rate rise in usa
however, that rise will assuredly be small so maybe a good chance to go long just after the event
REFERENDUM
odds on remain getting ever shorter according to IG betting
===============
good reason to stay out here is that it's a damn sight warmer
i hear uk is distinctly chilly

FTSE + DOW
shall prob close my short positions this morning and may even go modestly long
reasonably likely that many bears will tuck away their profits for the week before close of biz today

It has been noticed, but self-awareness in some is said to be a virtue.
