FTSE + FTSE 250 - consider trading (FTSE)

cynic - 20 Oct 2007 12:12

rather than pick out individual stocks to trade, it can often be worthwhile to trade the indices themselves, especially in times of high volatility.

for those so inclined, i attach below charts for FTSE and FTSE 250, though one might equally be tempted to trade Dow or S&P, which is significantly broader in its coverage, or even NASDAQ

for ease of reading, i have attached 1 year and 3 month charts in each instance

Well there were only two after-hours posts, Fred.

Reading between the lines, Cyners said he was bottling it, and I said I'd just filled my Louboutins.

Your trading must be reaping rewards Hilary. Average price around £500 !
Quite a lifestyle change from Peckham to Sud de la France.....à la Imelda Marcos! ;o)

I left France at the beginning of this month, Harry. Can't spend too long there at a time.

cynic - 10 Nov 2017 08:05 - 21544 of 21973

cyners stayed put and actually made a nice 57 point turn on DAX which was banked before bedtime

DAX has collapsed in a very bloody heap and other markets are not doing much better
glad my trading exposure is (always) light

Seems it's something to do with the proposed US tax legislation which is getting diluted. Markets were confident that DT could get the job done. Now they appear less sure. Coupled with that, the Health Care bill in the US, designed to replace Obama Care, is hitting shed loads of obstacles, as each State has it's own requirements.
Having said that, surely markets are due a correction at some point anyway???

7300 if it gets there should be support. Just hope Budget though seems unlikely provides some impetus or should that be hope :0)

Claret Dragon - 15 Nov 2017 22:18 - 21551 of 21973

3500 if it gets there should be support. :)

Hopefully not.

All in cash now. No holdings as I am a sad miserable git in my lair again.

cynic - 16 Nov 2017 08:40 - 21552 of 21973

CD - if you hold stock rather than trade on margin, it is an old adage that you're much better to keep holding than to sell and try to find the bottom

Claret Dragon - 16 Nov 2017 08:47 - 21553 of 21973

Sad old me. :)

cynic - 17 Nov 2017 16:53 - 21554 of 21973

DAX

HARRYCAT - 22 Nov 2017 21:44 - 21555 of 21973

Ex-divi day plus US Thanksgiving plus half day trading in the US on Friday.....not expecting great things for the rest of this week.

cynic - 23 Nov 2017 08:50 - 21556 of 21973

DAX
a sharp downward spike o'night took this below the important 12,950 level ..... for the moment at least, that was short-lived an there has now been a recovery to 12,985
with thanksgiving holiday in usa, it's hard to know whether there will be volatility or hibernation .... time will tell

Claret Dragon - 08 Dec 2017 14:14 - 21557 of 21973

Better day. Start of Santa Rally!!!

cynic - 08 Dec 2017 14:21 - 21558 of 21973

was a very lucky boy as took quite a bullish FTSE long just b4 lights out last night ..... that has romped away today, though it took a little while to do so

DAX long isn't exactly shabby either, nor several of my stocks

worth noting that FTSE has closed comfortably above the important 7360 level
