THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

goldfinger - 12 Apr 2013 01:20 - 23563 of 81564

goldfinger - 12 Apr 2013 01:22 - 23564 of 81564

No coincidence this thread is so popular.

Were all fed up and bored,

Only problem I got with this thread gf is Haystack.

Had run ins with u in the past but hey ho each to their own.

Had run ins with Fred in the past but hey ho each to their own.

Was a big fan of Haystack and his stock opinions (MMD springs to mind) but hey ho each to their own.

I'm sure Ghengis Ghan and Hitler had there good points but even their loyal supporters would imo have been more open to their shortcomings than Haystack is with MT.

On the other hand anyone partying because she (MT) has died is out of order , she was no Ghengis Khan or Hitler.

Haystack - 12 Apr 2013 02:53 - 23566 of 81564

MT had her bad points but she brought this country out of chaos. I remember the unburied, the rubbish in the streets, the 3 day week, the grip of the unions, Scargill trying to bring down the government with Soviet money. She came along just when needed and we should be grateful that she did.

Heard last night that Thatcher has clarity of thought and goal.

Somebody added,

So did:

Pinochet

Franco

Stalin

Hitler

Attilla the Hun

Ghenkis Khan

Many almost choked on their pints.

suggest you read up on GK and the mongols ...... their history is very interesting indeed, and was very far from being (just) destructive

TANKER - 12 Apr 2013 10:34 - 23569 of 81564

she would of gone far in hitlers ranks he would of loved her policys
and might have wanted her for is wife

Fred1new - 12 Apr 2013 11:23 - 23570 of 81564

Hear the song "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" is number 4 in the pop chart.

Let's "celebrate" comes to mind.

cynic - 12 Apr 2013 11:36 - 23571 of 81564

bad taste is more apposite

Haystack - 12 Apr 2013 12:17 - 23572 of 81564

Question time last night was very interesting with most panel members saying very nice things about her. The audience were clearly on her side, even the younger members. Vince cable was particularly pleasant about her and reminded people what a mess the UK was in when she became PM.

It is turning out that only the rabid left has anything bad to say about her.

Blair said yesterday that the Labour party is becoming the party of protest and nothing more.

goldfinger - 12 Apr 2013 12:18 - 23573 of 81564

Nos 3 now. And growing. Wonder if it is on U tube.

Shortie - 12 Apr 2013 12:21 - 23574 of 81564

Labour has long been the party of protest. I wouldn't trust Ed Miliband to park my car let alone run the country. Politics in general has become a laughing stock, the political agenda needs clearly to be addressed so politicans spend less time debating things like gay marriage and more time addressing issues of trade.

cynic - 12 Apr 2013 12:27 - 23575 of 81564

QT was probably not an accurate reflection ..... nevertheless, it's likely that MT would have concurred that some her actions were divisive, but necessary for all that

assuredly, with the benefit of 25/30 years hindsight, it will be seen that the consequences of some her actions - e.g. perhaps selling off council houses - did not turn out as expected (i shan't sidetrack) ....... however, only the hard left and further would deny that her breaking of the militant unions was akin to excising an aggressive cancer ..... further, she brought rampant inflation under control

for those 2 actions alone, we should all be very thankful

TANKER - 12 Apr 2013 12:40 - 23576 of 81564

ony blair wants theparty to follow s leadand become a war criminal he should be tried
for watr crimes he lead the uk to war on DAM LIES the man is no better than a murderer .

goldfinger - 12 Apr 2013 12:58 - 23577 of 81564

Cyners are you really saying if it werent for the Falklands war she would have been re- elected????.

Dont think so, she had a lower rating than Gordon Brown before the war.

goldfinger - 12 Apr 2013 13:07 - 23578 of 81564

One thing I liked about Maggie was she was all for free speech, got to credit her with that even if she did obliterate 2/3rds of the countrys industrial base.

cynic - 12 Apr 2013 13:07 - 23579 of 81564

i didn't say or even suggest that ..... falklands war was necessary - i think you'll find the great majority would still agree even if you don't - but undoubtedly the timing was fortuitous for her .....

to suggest that MT provoked the war for selfish political ends - i suspect that's where you're trying to go - would be beneath contempt ..... you might find the papers just released under the 30-year rule surprisingly interesting and revealing

Chris Carson - 12 Apr 2013 13:15 - 23580 of 81564

GF - How old were you at the time of the Falklands war exactly? My guess is your still exercising the same mental age :O)
