I think you will find Richard that although constructed differently Gann angles have a close corellation to Fib retracements (and extensions).

PT - thanks for the pretty chart and notes! Please excuse my ignorance (yet again!) but what is a "TA perspective"? Territorial Army? dont think so! Total Annihilation? - hope not! [Timing Algorithm, Think Attack, something Analysis??]
TA - Thanks Again

Your last suggestion ToyA was pretty close:
Technecial Analysis :) In t'other words 'charting'
Some where on this board is a TA thread I started some months ago, it's fallen into the doldrums cos I haven't been around to keep it alive. Some interesting comments on there from other posters, you may benefit from a quick shufti, then again you may find it a load of old tosh!!

Thanks A lot pt! :)
I did find some interesting websites that give endless explanations about chart analysis - fascinating, but looks like a lifetime's work to understand it all. I will try and get a bit of a handle on it though.

Toya ..... but never get misled into believing that charts are more than a very useful tool even though, because many follow, are suprisingly often self-fulfilling

Thanks for that proviso Cynic. Difficult enough to make the right decisions, without or without charts in any case!
I've been having a lovely relaxing day today, not having to think about what my shares are doing. How about you?

Perigord!!! I don't suppose you would reconsider & re-route via the foothills of the Andes? You could have a quick shufti at GOO's progress as well as getting fit! :o)

ToyA, Cynic and I have been round this particular buoy previously, he believes TA is no more than a useful tool, personally I believe TA has much greater value and utility. Yes it is self-fulfilling purely because so many peeps use TA. Actually if ye olde Cynic were to analyse his own investment decisions he would discover that most are based on TA. How often does he post comment re 25MAs, 50MAs and any other time frame MA? Quite a lot, hoist by your own petard Richard :)
MAs form part of TA, in fact when all said and done MAs are trendlines, the basic premise of charting.
You don't need to spend hours learning this stuff, just basic trends, support and resistance lines will serve you well when making decisions.

i will accept that Peter .... however, just because you and i often follow charts, i think you would also admit they are by no means the Holy Grail ..... however, they certainly highlight likely or even actual trends

Thanks for that info, Silvermede. Did they say anything else?
PT + Cynic: I certainly agree that one should be aware of support/resistance levels, and keep an eye on MAs - and yes: Cynic does use (preach?) these a lot, and I think rightly so. Much appreciated, too, as it's helped me to try and think before I act (not always achieved, alas). I do need to familiarise myself with some of the other tools and have had a look at the TA thread that you mentioned PT: very useful, and hadn't known it was there :)
However, it is also important to read about the companies and their forward plans - as far as we can - to try and anticipate likely movement. It's certainly paid off when I've made the effort.

Excellent discussion over the W/End concerning charts, howecerwhat charts don't allow for is the announcement of news,so what news would help BRR? The recent MOU helped a little but more for the future,so the interest shown for the technologywhich is not just confined to S/Africa,N/America and the Soviet Block haveinquired, i see this more,as helping consolidate the lows.
This leaves the Aussie project, of which we know is hugh. For me that piece of news will come(hopefully)in the form of HB(who is presently in Australia)agreeing a new contract with BHP for Leinster tailings.Rather than the 65% buy back of sulphites,a royalty for the pure(96%)nickel which BRR has proven it can
process.

Cyril - agree: that's just what I mean about keeping as informed as possible. Even if the BRR sp slides a little in the next couple of weeks I'm not going to worry about it (for once!), feeling confident that positive news will come through and give it a decent boost.

Cyril, I quite agree re charts not allowing for news............to a degree. The problem with TA is that it probably has less relevance when applied to small caps, the smaller the cap the less the relevance. Good news for a tiddler has a disproportionate effect on the SP whether good or bad, however similiar news on a larger stock has less effect and thus can be contained within the 'chart' rather than shooting off the scale.

Peter i agree, and my reason for my post.Their is still some short term news for BRR which should help move to a new high (possibly 30p), but this after all is a long term project.
So for me a good guide for such is KMR, which moved on news but later drifted
(45p down to 30p and back),and i can see this happening with BRR. So worth keeping eye on the charts with regard to sentiment.
