How to profit from Betting Exchanges (BEX)

How would you like to trade a market where you get large regular price swings every 10 minutes in the afternoon, seven days a week. A
market where all prices are set purely by supply and demand, few transaction costs, no middle men and you only pay commission if you win? Where you can freely act as a market maker and where you have direct market access and where you can create a spread for others to take?

Betfair has revolutionised the betting market and created an open platform for exchanging risk on sports events. This market is now viewed much more like a traditional financial risk market than an old fashioned betting market. Smart users have realised that there are huge opportunities on Betfair because they can buy and sell risk in much the same way they would in a normal financial market but without the burden of cost or the restricted access that is usually associated with traditional financial markets.

Sorry to be super thick but if you lay Thurin, and there is a draw, you collect yeah? Then why are there such good odds on it? I know I'm missing a piece of the jigsaw!!

Scripophilist - 14 Sep 2005 21:34 - 4622 of 10502

Layed the draw at 1.13

From looking a bit of a mess at half time this is turning out to be a good result.

Wonder what Sir Alec will kick at Rooney? A boot? Sven was in the crowd too.

Hmmm?

"Wayne, a pain again (in Spain)!"

Doc, I didn't realise you worked for the Sun!

The cover from Wayne Rooney's new book, "How to get yourself sent off after getting booked a few seconds ago, in one easy lesson."

Wasn't looking at the Arsenal odds this evening, but I would imagine that they were quite steep. So yes you would have collected had Thun not won, but only the amount you had staked, say, for example 5. The flip side would have been expensive as had the odds been 10 and the stake 5 and Thun gone onto win, you would have lost 45 for the possible gain of 5. Unfortunately I am but a beginner myself and also had trouble grasping the concept of 'laying' but in essence you are acting as the bookmaker and offering odds to someone taking the other side of the bet.

Anybody else having trouble picking the results of this C-L matches? Seems a lot tougher than the Premiership.

arsenal are the most luckiest side i have seen in football on a serious note which might help some of you, there have only been 2 bets over the last 2 nights that i have bet on layed madrid and backed juve last night the first thing is to look at past c/league form this will give you some idea how they have fired backing arsenal at 1/5 1/6 ask yoursleve was that value i dont think so anyone backing at them prices ..... say no more until they show signs of improving unless boookies give better odds then leave them alone.hope this has helped
