THE TALK TO YOURSELF THREAD. (NOWT)

goldfinger - 09 Jun 2005 12:25

Thought Id start this one going because its rather dead on this board at the moment and I suppose all my usual muckers are either at the Stella tennis event watching Dim Tim (lose again) or at Henly Regatta eating cucumber sandwiches (they wish,...NOT).

Anyway please feel free to just talk to yourself blast away and let it go on any company or subject you wish. Just wish Id thought of this one before.

cheers GF.

Haystack - Jim Murphy would be an excellent choice. As dour Scots go, he is up there with the worst. Gordon Brown resembles Mr Charisma compared to Murphy!:-)

Haystack - 14 Nov 2014 11:54 - 50223 of 81564

I have experience of dour Scots. I was previously married to a Scot with a very dour family. I was married in Elgin with toasts in The Macallan whisky, kilts and bagpipes outside the church and at the reception. I caused a local scandal by wearing a black velvet suit and a bow tie for the wedding.

doodlebug4 - 14 Nov 2014 11:57 - 50224 of 81564

What, no kilt for you? Was that when it all started going pear shaped Haystack?!

Shortie - 14 Nov 2014 11:58 - 50225 of 81564

Is the new currency for ISIS camels, goats and women...? If so I'm not interested..

So now we know why and awful lot of Scots want out of the UK.. Some poor women made an horrendous error of judgement and got hitched to one of our doug heaps.. there maybe an appeal at end of play today for the unfortunate Women - please give generously if so.

DB4,

He didn't have anything real to cover!

doodlebug4 - 14 Nov 2014 14:32 - 50228 of 81564

I can't blame him for not wanting to wear a kilt in Elgin, it can be colder than the North Pole there! Plenty of The Macallan whisky required.:-)

Fred1new - 14 Nov 2014 14:38 - 50229 of 81564

Haze,

Would probably use the whisky as rub.

Benefit cuts force tenant evictions to record levels – Guardian14/11/2014

The cost of benefits cuts is starting to filter through as record numbers of people lost their homes by the end of September, according to Hilary Osborne in The Guardian.
The number of tenant households in England and Wales evicted from their homes hit record levels in the third quarter of the year, with cuts to social security among the factors leading to more than 100 evictions a day. Figures from the Ministry of Justice show that 11,100 rented properties were repossessed by bailiffs between July and September, the highest quarterly figure since the records began in 2000. In contrast, just 2,805 mortgage borrowers lost their homes.

By the end of September, more than 30,000 tenant households had lost their homes, and the figure is on track to be higher than the 37,792 recorded in 2013. The eviction figures do not show who owns the rental properties in question, but recently a large proportion of possession claims have been made by social landlords such as local councils and housing associations, who have warned it is caused by the introduction of the bedroom tax.

Meanwhile figures from the government showed that although the number of new homes created in England rose by 10% in 2013/14, it remained almost 100,000 down on the figure reached before the financial crisis, and below the number experts say are needed to keep up with demand.

Official government figures showed that 136,610 homes were added to England’s housing stock during the year, including 130,340 newbuild properties. Almost 4,500 new homes came from conversions, while 12,520 were created through change of use and there were 1,330 other gains. Some of these new homes were offset by the loss of 12,060 residences through demolition.

Several questions arise from this:

What has happened to the properties that have been repossessed? Have they been provided to other social tenants or have they been sold off?

And what do the ‘new build’ figures say about the Conservative-led government’s boast that it is building more homes than ever before?

It seems the Tory/Lib Dem bid to make us all homeless is going according to plan.

The nasty party at work again.

AND its getting worse all the time under these Tory cheats.

Ed Miliband – biggest threat to the status quo for decades – kittysjones 14/11/2014

141114EdPM.jpg?resize=505%2C407

Vox Political is planning to review Ed Miliband’s fightback against the media attacks of the last couple of weeks. To whet your appetite, here’s kittysjones on his speech yesterday:

“We’re in a fight not because our opponents think we’re destined to lose the election. But because they fear we can win. And between now and the election they are going to use every tactic to try to destabilise, distract us and throw us off course. Our task, the task for every person in this party, is simple: To focus our eyes on the prize of changing this country.” Ed Miliband.

Ed Miliband has pledged to take on “vested interests” and “powerful forces” in his bid to win the next general election. Not even the Crosby and Murdoch orchestrated media campaign, which was aimed at demoralising, undermining and monstering Ed Miliband can disguise the fact that the Tories are in a state of panic.

In fact the media campaign, aimed at attempting to undermine Miliband’s credibility as a leader, arose precisely because Miliband is the biggest threat to the UK power base and status quo that we’ve seen for many decades. He’s challenging the neo-liberal consensus of the past 30 years – now that is a plain indication of strong leader, and someone with personal strength and courage.

As for the media, and the attempt at agenda-setting, well we’ve known for the past four years that there is now a big chasm between what is real, and what is deemed “newsworthy”. Because the mainstream media have no interest in public interests, only vested ones. It’s about time that we reclaimed our democracy and showed them that WE set the agenda, not overpaid and highly corrupted journalists and editors. Or monopolies like the wake of scandals that is News Corp.

In his inspiring speech at the University of London, Ed Miliband said he would tackle a “zero-zero economy”, saying people were on so-called zero-hours contracts while the rich “get away with zero tax”. He talked about the Labour policy to defend our NHS – currently being fragmented by a privatisation programme that no-one voted for – which was particularly welcome, funded by a clampdown on tax avoidance and taxing hedge funds and cigarette companies.

He said he would “I am willing to put up with whatever is thrown at me in order to fight for you.”, and that it was the party’s “duty… not to shrink from the fight, not to buckle under the pressure but to win”.

These are NOT the words of a man who’s on the way out; they’re the words of a man on the way IN to Downing Street. To read more, visit kittysjones‘ article.

cynic - 14 Nov 2014 15:21 - 50235 of 81564

it's the vicious landlords like sticky to blame :-)

Fred1new - 14 Nov 2014 15:23 - 50236 of 81564

GF,

I thought the same.

He is playing a straight hand.

And why should he be more specific about future policies to the big boys, who would immediately claim them as their own.

Cameron doesn't know whether to sway to the left or right.
