Israeli Gaza conflict?????? (GAZA)

Fred1new - 06 Jan 2009 19:21

Will this increase or decrease the likelihood of terrorist actions in America, Europe and the rest of the world?

If you were a member of a family murdered in this conflict, would you be seeking revenge?

Should Tzipi Livni and Ehud Olmert, be tried for war crimes if or when this conflict comes to an end?

What will the price of oil be in 4 weeks time?

Israel is a 'country' born out the terrorism and territorial ambitions of its leaders. Now they want to style the resistance of the people they are subjugating and who's land they have stolen and are stealing as terrorism.

If anyone is in serious need of assassination, it is Netenyahu plus a few of his cabinet.

The UN Human Rights Council on Thursday adopted a resolution to set up an independent probe into the effects of Jewish settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem on the Palestinians. The resolution was passed by 36 votes for, US against.

Israel announced that it refuses to cooperate with the UN council.

Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman said Friday that he was considering withdrawing the Israeli ambassador to the UN Human Rights Council and severing ties with the body, following its establishment of a fact-finding mission to probe the effects of settlements on Palestinian human rights.

Liberman added that he will convene a meeting in the foreign ministry to discuss the possibility that Israel will not cooperate with the council in their investigation.

I would be more frightened by Israel cooperating.

Iran is trying to negotiate.
I hope the west keep an open minded approach, and in return get the huge market, it is 75 mln rich and well educated but hungary for advanced products.

North Korea is going to go ahead with, as they say, satellite launch. The west does not accept the claim despite their invitation to send observers to the country...

About time too!

Egypt's state-owned gas company says it has scrapped a controversial deal which supplies Israel with 40% of its natural gas at lower than market prices.

The deal was widely unpopular in Egypt, but solidly backed by former President Hosni Mubarak who was forced to step down last February after mass protests.

Since then, the pipeline delivering gas from Egypt to Israel and Jordan has been bombed at least 14 times, reducing supplies significantly.

Gas deliveries to Israel dried up for a total of 225 days in 2011 and 66 days during the first three months of 2012, and ceased after an explosion on 5 March, according to Ampal-American Israel Corporation - a stakeholder in East Mediterranean Gas Company (EMG), which operates the cross-border pipeline.

The shortages have seen the state-owned Israel Electric Company increase rates by a third and warn of rolling blackouts this summer.

Israeli officials insist the terms of the contract are fair, but Egyptian prosecutors said last April the state had lost more than $714m.

The details of the deal have never been released publicly, but former Egyptian officials have said the gas was initially sold to EMG at about $1.25 per British thermal unit (BTU), and then increased in 2008 to $4 per BTU. EMG was able to negotiate its own terms with Israeli buyers.

The government sells gas to Egyptian companies for about $4 per BTU, while comparable deals see Turkey, Greece and Italy paying $7 to $10.

"The big saying here in Egypt is that we are subsidising the Israeli people while we are not subsidising the Egyptians," Tamer Abu Bakr, the chairman of Genco Group, an Egyptian natural gas distribution company, told the Wall Street Journal.

Israel joins UN list of states limiting human rights organizations

UN Human Rights Commissioner Navi Pillay lists Israel along with countries such as Belarus, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Ethiopia and Venezuela.

The statement, issued on Wednesday by UN Human Rights Commissioner Navi Pillay, lists Israel along with countries such as Belarus, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Ethiopia and Venezuela.

Israel was named due to the bill approved by the Ministerial Committee on Legislation six months ago to restrict funding by foreign governments to nonprofit organizations. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supported the bill throughout most of its formulation. However, he ordered it frozen after Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein said such a law would be struck down by the High Court of Justice.

Although the law never reached the Knesset, Pillay said in her statement: "In Israel, the recently adopted Foreign Funding Law could have a major impact on human rights organizations, subjecting them to rigorous reporting requirements, forcing them to declare foreign financial support in all public communications, and threatening heavy penalties for non-compliance."

Israel is the only democratic country listed in Pillay's statement. The others are all dictatorships or developing countries. Among them is Ethiopia, where human rights groups have been shut down by a law prohibiting foreign funding in excess of 10 percent of a group's budget. She also lists Cambodia, where a law is being promoted that would shutter NGOs whose work is found to "harm national unity, culture, customs and traditions of the Cambodian national society." In Belarus, which is ruled by the dictator Alexander Lukashenko, a law passed in October 2011 criminalizes the acceptance of foreign grants that are outlawed by the legislature.

Last month, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman instructed the Israeli mission to the United Nations in Geneva to cut ties with the UN Human Rights Commission after member countries in the Human Rights Council voted to establish an international commission of inquiry on the West Bank settlements. A senior source in the Foreign Ministry said Israel's inclusion in Pillay's statement was a direct outcome of Lieberman's move. "This was a mistake and now we see the results," the source said.

Ex-Israeli security chief attacks Netanyahu over Iran
By Tobias Buck in Jerusalem

"The former director of Israel’s internal security service has launched a frontal assault on the Iran policy of Benjamin Netanyahu and Ehud Barak, describing Israel’s current prime minister and defence minister as “messianic” politicians who could not be trusted.

Yuval Diskin, who retired from his high-profile post at the helm of the Shin Bet only last year, told a meeting on Friday: “My major problem is that I have no faith in the current leadership, which must lead us in an event on the scale of war with Iran or a regional war.”

According to an account of the meeting in Haaretz, the Israeli daily, Mr Diskin added: “I don’t believe in either the prime minister or the defence minister. I don’t believe in a leadership that makes decisions based on messianic feelings.”

The harsh comments by Mr Diskin are the latest in a series of open attacks by former security and intelligence officials on the Israeli government over the Iranian nuclear threat.

According to analysts and officials, the criticism suggests that Israel’s defence and security establishment is more reluctant to support military strikes against Iran’s nuclear programme than politicians such as Mr Netanyahu and Mr Barak.”
