New bulletinboard now live.

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 02 Jul 2005 01:46

Hello,

As you can see, we have put the new bulletin boards live.

The migration went smoothly, though it look at little longer than I expected it to!

If you notice any problems on the boards, please post below.

J - nothing major. I broke one of my postings on the following thread:

http://www.moneyam.com/TradersRoom/posts.php?tid=3149 (Post 50)

I'm afraid that somewhere along the line I omitted the closing < / a > from the href and so now the whole edit posting box including the buttons below has become one big hypertext jump to the wrong location. So I can't edit out the problem now because it doesn't work. A bit careless on my part really.

I tried to recreate the problem briefly on this thread - but of course your software always managed to add the < / a > afterwards through its own error correction, so I couldn't replicate it, although obviously it's possible, somehow!

By the way, if I add & lt;/a& gt; into a posting, when I edit again it becomes < / a >, and when I post the edited message, it disappears - so I've had to artificially space the html here.

Congratulations on the changes. The change in brightness of the blue and greys make it much easier to locate my favourite threads.

Ian

When squleching a user, you now have to type in the user name rather than it being an automatic process as before. Any chance of an update?

pth

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 03 Jul 2005 12:50 - 44 of 388

ptholden,

The squelching is currently kept seperate from the profiles (where it was in the old system), and from within the new squelch system you're able to add users and remove them from the one screen without having to hunt for their usernames on the BBs.

We think this is a better system, but we'll discuss other options during the week.

Can we discuss this further please TJ? ;)

I guess I'm a voice in the wilderness, but the key info that I look for on the index page, after the Topic and EPIC columns, is the Posts-Unread and Last Poster info. Ideally I'd like to see that information centred, for ease of use, with the columns in the following order, for example:

Topic EPIC Total Unread Last-Poster Started-By Updated

Another redesign maybe. (OK, I think I know the answer.)

Kyoto - 03 Jul 2005 14:35 - 47 of 388

J - if I write a dollar figure - e.g. .50 (thirty-five dollars 50 cents), it ends up as .50 cents unless I put a space between the dollar and the figure, e.g. $ 35.50

Bit of a problem cutting and pasting parts of US news stories under the circumstances.

Haystack - 03 Jul 2005 16:04 - 48 of 388

What has heppened to the create thread feature when reading a thread?

Fred1new - 03 Jul 2005 16:55 - 49 of 388

What format can images be appended to the post? Please

DocProc - 03 Jul 2005 18:04 - 50 of 388

Perhaps it might be a good idea to put some 'Thread buttons' just underneath 'the line', sorta higher like, like wot we 'ad before.

Maggot - 03 Jul 2005 19:23 - 51 of 388

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but I liked the idea of repeating the last post when one moves on to 'later posts' - it offers a nice continuity. Now I can never be sure whether I've missed any out, as it goes from post (say) 96 at the end of one page, to post 97 to begin the next one.

Alkso it was much more convenient, in my opinion, to have 'Earlier Posts' at the top of the main thread (ie after the first message).

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 03 Jul 2005 19:31 - 52 of 388

StonyB,
Unfortunately that kind of big redesign will be met with quite a lot of resistance so is unlikely but I will raise the point with the others.

Kyoto,
Aha, that's a bug in the templating system. I'll try and upgrade the servers tomorrow to resolve that issue (out of hours)

Haystack,
The create thread option is only on the thread index becuase that's where it's really relevant. Post related options are visible on the posts page.

Fred1new,
You can link in any kind of images that you can find on the web (gif, jpg, png...)

Docproc,
What would improvement would having more buttons under 'the line' give over what is already enhanced navigation on this board?

J.

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 03 Jul 2005 19:33 - 53 of 388

Maggot,

Surely if you're reading post 96 on one page, and then reading post 97 on the next then you'll know there's no loss in continuity? (as we don't have post 96.5 for instance) ;)

Re: 'Buttons under the line' - particularly another one, which is an "Earlier Posts" button.

Well, if I go 'upwards' to previous posts and reach the line because I can't go any further, I then have to go all the way back 'down' again to reach the button which says "Earlier Posts".

TullettJ (MoneyAM) - 03 Jul 2005 21:46 - 55 of 388

DocProc,

You could use the page-jump-bar on the top right of the page to go back a page either by using the < or the numbered (1,2,3) buttons (with these in place there are 5 places you can click on the page to view previous posts in a thread list)

How's that?

DocProc - 03 Jul 2005 23:34 - 56 of 388

OK. Agreed.

I now see how to use them. I guess old habits die hard, eh? :-)

Andy - 03 Jul 2005 23:47 - 57 of 388

Tulletj,

Why is it that a thread I have read and posted on doesn't show unread messages, simply a blank space, when there are some unread replies?

Ie I posted to the FDI thread, and someone replied, but although I could see their name as the past poster, the unread messages coulumn was blank.

Piptrader - 04 Jul 2005 00:05 - 58 of 388

I suggest that the 'Thread List' button is moved up a line to join with those relating to posts. The present location is not the best intuitive place, since the other buttons on that line have nothing to do with posts.

Also, I'd like to see that button double its present size. I would imagine that the most common operation after getting to the end of a thread is to return to the thread list, so that button needs to be very obvious and easy to access with a quick move of the mouse - a larger target would make that much easier.

Andy,

I'm not quite sure what you mean?
